The goal of the use for this stuff is to induce diarrhea as it is a side effect of the medication. I’m not actually treating bacterial infections.
In that case - you already have a fish that has resolved its swelling. This IMHO - is a mistake as compared to doing nothing

Great - well another side effect of this medication is kidney failure. So - I guess you can decide to balance what you're doing

I’ve had several people tell me this was a l treatment option should the others fail. I’m relatively new to the hobby so please, rather than put me down about following advice I got on this thread, tell me what I should be doing. I’m open to suggestions! I don’t want to lose this fish.

Are you seeing any darkening of the belly? I’m worried about intestinal rupture and subsequent peritonitis.

Going to continue this thread just to document the outcome. It seems that several people have had this issue with biota yellow tangs. Hopefully this will assist with those struggling in the future. The yellow tang has been moved to a hospital tank below my display. I was using the tank to grow cheato, so I did leave some in the tank for him should he want to eat. I dosed the kanaplex at the recommended dose and will redose every 2 days. I’ve got my fingers crossed for him to pull through, but not holding my breath.
please keep everyone updated

Well - I am not aware that this would be the best or safest antibiotic for this purpose - in fact. Totally disagree with its use for that reason. But - I hope it works out for you.
What would you suggest?

Sorry. I didn't mean to 'put you down' I gave the information about Kanamycin that I have had experience with. I would not use it to induce diarrhea - and besides that - I was under the impression that the fish was much better - except not eating... If I read it incorrectly, apologies.

No worry! He did seem to be a little better, but that may have just been wishful thinking. He’s still kicking today in the tank I’ve set up. I dosed yesterday so I’ll monitor today, and redose tomorrow. I’ve not seen him poop yet, but I’ve got my fingers crossed.

FYI - I was not trying to criticize using Kanamycin, because - looking at your situation, I'm not sure there was/is much left to do. I just wanted to also give some general information about aminoglycosides, as well as, in your case, I was also going to suggest that perhaps (if you haven't done so) touch base with Biota and ask if they have any ideas that might be specific to their fish that could help)

That’s a great idea! I’ll definitely reach out to see what they say. Thanks for the suggestion!

tang seems bloated, I would feed nori from now on....
Tangs in the wild are natural herbivores they are not use to processing so much protein at one time...

100%! I will not be feeding this guy anymore mysis. I knew he was eating it, but he was also chowing down on the vegetation in my tank. I always provide Nori along with other macro algae. I also have a lot of hair algae in my tank currently so he was always full.

Here are some better pictures. What do you think regarding a rupture?
