So I had an ick and velvet break out back in February. Lost 14 fish because it was impossible to catch them with all my rock work. I have a 160 gal reef/ fish tank. I let the tank go fallow for the 90+ days with nothing but corals, snails, crabs and shrimp.
Started my QT tank and added a purple tang and 2 clown fish. Qt them with 2.5 copper power and 7 days of general cure, then fed them 2x day with pellets mixed w/ GC. Cooper never dropped below 2.55 the entire time 32 days. Introduced them to DT on August 3 and today just noticed 3 spots on my PT. Is this possible??? Please help. I am just lost on how this happen and what to do now.

I wouldn't call it an ick outbreak yet. I personally believe ich is in every tank even after fallow but in a weak dormant state. If you introduced healthy QT fish into your tank with strong immune systems then they will fight off the minor infection. But don't add any more fish for at least 3 weeks. Soak food in seachem garlic.

How long have you QT the new fish as the copper period was not mentioned and can you furnish pics under white light intensity for identification?
Im in hopes its lymphocystis but pics will confirm. Ich multiplies every 24 hours and looking at fish tomorrow will confirm IF ich if there are more noticeable dots and location of dots

I QT for 35 days. Day 1 1.0 Copper, Day 2 2.5. Copper. I keep Copper power at 2.55 for 30 days straight. Then no copper for 2 days. Purple tang is showing 2 white spots. Tail and bottom fin. (Circled in red) pics show a lot of spots but they are air in water. Fish is perfect other then what is circled. Maybe it’s nothing just freaks me out that I did everything by the book and noticed this today. Spots are hard to see in pic.

While I won’t say it is impossible for this to be ich, I don’t see how it could have survived through that process.

Biosecurity can be tough for us to track. No new animals were added to the fallow tank? No algae, corals, live foods?

I had one case where everything seemed to have been done correctly, but then I learned that the person had other tanks and had the habit of feeding their fish with a spoon going tank to tank.

I think you should wait to confirm this is indeed ich: you probably know the drill, watch for discrete white spots that change location day to day and generally increase in numbers over time.

Thanks yea no new coral, rock or anything was added. Purchased everything new for qt tank so no cross contamination. Hoping it’s just sand or something odd. I find it impossible for something to live in there for that long. Probably just me being paranoid. I lost 14 fish 4 very expensive tangs. All because I added a pair of black clowns that were supposed to have been qtd. lesson learned very fast.
