External overflow, for a 400 gallon tank. Tank builder suggested using spa flex PVC for the drains. What advantage vs disadvantage of this? The reason they suggest is so it does not put strain on the overflow. If not going to use they said I should at least have the tank filled first so the pad movement takes place before the plumbing. What would you do? In addition if I go with the flex how do I attach it with brackets to the stand like the hard PVC.

Thanks

The od of spaflex is the same as an equivalent regular pvc usually so you can use the same clamps to reduce any torque on the box that may be caused by the weight.

Advantages would be reduced quantity of elbows = less flow restrictions.

Disadvantages would be that you generally need to do some sort of heating/put out effort to remove any uneccesary bends/+ make larger bends depending on the size you plan on using.

Personally for the tanks I do use any flexible pvc on, I do a hybrid rigid + flex pvc approach to lessen the amount of effort I may need.

I used flex pvc just to make it smoother flow to the sump. I printed brackets to hold the plumbing.

Looks nice. Keep the final ends of the return pipe at the surface of the display to break siphon at power outage.
