This is severe tissue loss and fish needs immediate treatment in a separate tank using seachem Neoplex
This may have occurred within rocks and hopefully not from aggression
What other tank mates are in with it
Still eating?

Ouch - with that much missing skin, the fish is going to have difficulty maintaining proper salt levels in its blood. When you move it to a treatment tank, you should lower the salinity to help it maintain osmotic balance - perhaps a SG of 1.020 or do.

Unable to help diagnose the injury, but I thought engineer gobies needed a deeper sand bed? Aside from the injury, Is yours comfortable in your tank with rock caves or perhaps a deeper section of sand? I think they're fascinating but thought they wouldn't be an option without going deep... This picture has me wondering if I can get one now

I'm wishing yours a quick recovery!
