Emergency! How to prevent BJD spreading

Hi everyone,
A little over a month ago I bought a very expensive wall hammer coral. Big mistake. Turns out, it brought with it some Brown Jelly Disease, and is now on its last leg.

I’m feeling pretty down about this right now. Is there a way to remove it so that my other LPS corals don’t get sick?

I feel like there is no saving the hammer (it’s a wall anyway so it’s kinda one big head), but I’m asking about all my other LPS now at risk.

I remove and put in QT any LPS that shows the slightest sign of BJD. It will spread and is very deadly (in my experience nearly 100% untreated and maybe 50% if caught early and treated). I would write this coral off, but more importantly examine all other LPS and quickly remove/treat in a separate tank any that show the slightest bit of unhealthiness.

What if I have no coral QT (and no real means of getting one?)

Turn off all pumps. If possible put ziploc bag/etc over it and gently remove. Just try to limit how much spreads and blows around.

Then trash can would be my answer. Honestly though for the price of 1 coral you can get a 10g petco tank with a cheap heater and powerhead. Less than $100 for a cheap light that you need if they in there more than a few days. Thats a whole other discussion, but for coral I think that should be first priority before a DT is setup and coral added.

IMO brown jelly= Dead, but I’ve heard instances where they can be saved. Manual removal and dragging I’ve heard help! Goodluck!!!

I’m gonna remove it. I’m going to FW dip and do a hydrogen peroxide dip (because why not?), then leave it in a container with some light on it. Probably all I really can do, but what the heck?

I removed it with a ziploc bag and don’t think I got any jelly anywhere. I then put it in a separate container, and blew off all the jelly parts. Not much remains. Is it worth saving or should I let it die? The issue is that my QT is currently occupied by clownfish and I don’t want to compromise my tank’s brook fallow period (about a week left), so I’m kinda stuck with letting it die. Maybe I’ll turn its skeleton into a GSP chia pet.

Any known reason why this happens? Can this happen years later in a tank w established Euphyllia?

I’ve had some success dipping in H2o2. Full strength 3%. Then into fsw and gently blow away bjd with pipette. Dip in another fsw to remove any remainder. Return to tank. Each day following, put in container of fsw and gently bath with h2o2 in pipette and then dip in another fsw container, return to tank. Repeat until no more bjd is detected. Probably for about a week.

The hammer gave out during the dip. It started to open up and look better until it burst into brown slime. I’ll observe my other lps from here. Thanks everyone.
