Do you have anything in your tank considered "uncommon"?

The reason why marine bettas don't get more attention is beyond me. Beautiful fish.
Horshoe crab is very cool too!
Me neither! I love him he is a great fish. And yeah she was actually a hitch hiker into my tank!

Hitchhiker horshoe crab?
Yeah! She was the size of a quarter. She came with my 125 gallon I got off marketplace from someone who sold all the rock and livestock. I saw her after putting it all back together at my house and messaged him asking what she was and he said he had never seen that before. So after researching I found out what she was!

Hard to say really but one reason may be that they are a bit of a recluse or secretive. They are typically in darker parts of the reef structure. Rocks, caves, behind larger coral colonies, etc.

I have a couple fish that I actually have to keep a log book for to note when I do see them. My Yellow Assessor and Upside Down Goby come to mind. Months go by before I see either one of those kids.

Anyway the Marine Beta is a beautiful fish who does need more love.

Just got some Fuzzy Chitons from reef cleaners.org. Only dealer I’ve seen them in stock. Bought them mostly because they’re cool looking. They scrape algae with their raspy teeth. Covered with algae for camouflage. VERY slow moving and nocturnal. Stick to the rock like super glue. Prehistoric little bugs.

I don't have him anymore, but my dwarf golden eel was pretty uncommon. He was one of my favorites, but we moved homes, and he went on a hunger strike after that, and I ended up losing him. I never shed a tear over a fish, but I almost did with him. When you hand-feed them like that, you get attached.

I had one of these, I really liked it but it was one of only two corals I’ve lost, but also one of my first LPS.

It just struggled the whole time, I think mostly due to placement and flow. It just kept getting aggravated by sand, detritus and so on unlike anything else in the tank. Seemed any time a grain got onto the flesh it caused severe irritation that took weeks to recover from, an issue not helped by having several burrowing fish.

I reckon I could probably do a better job now I have a better handle on this stuff, but it’s a coral that doesn’t come through the LFS all that often.

one of my LFS actually has one of these in a DT! they're so dang cool!
They are. I did as much reading as I could possibly to prior to getting mine. It was the ONLY piece of livestock I looked into. I'm SO embarrassed to say, I did things A LOT differently back then. Now I want 12 to 18 months of study before I get wet. But yeah, if I remember correctly, if they get stressed, they can straight up nuke a tank. But if they die on their own, no toxins. That animal had my complete attention for years. I target fed it, never trusting the water column to do it for me. I remember one Thanksgiving dinner (with in-laws) I got excited, pointed at the Apple and stated with glee, "IT POOPED!!!!". I was seriously happy, as that meant it was eating! A sign of health! I was the only one impressed.......Well, my kids were too. 'Cause I said Pooped at the dinner table.....

I found little info on this guy and bought it as an oddity that I liked. I’ve learned a lot about it. Hates sand. I have elevated it.

Hates being dipped. Seems the flesh on these guys is super thin/sensitive. Releases filaments like crazy and damages it’s own flesh. Despite the stand it fell recently and landed the sand and receded on the edge. I resisted dipping but algae was building up preventing healing. I dipped in hydrogen peroxide dip then lugols. This happened.

Filaments all out in the middle below the mouth.

My Temperature gauge was built in 1907. I took it from the Plaza Hotel basement when I renovated the place.

My diatom filter is DIY as are my turkey basters, magnet glass cleaner and algae scrubber.

I started my tank with water from under the Brooklyn Bridge. :anguished-face:

I never bought a Pod in my life but my mandarins, ruby red dragonettes, scooter bleenies, clown gobies and bluestripe pipefish spawn constantly.
