Do you have a lazy fish/invert? If so which ones(s) and why?

Do you have a lazy fish/invert/other?

I only have 3 Halloween crabs that have figured out how to survive a 12 wrasse display. I dumped 20 blue legs in the other week and counted 16 cracked shells by noon the following day, what a crap show.

If someone knows of a good crab that has better survival skill/chances please let me know. I'm not too worried about corals being picked at either if that helps ;)

The RO system I mentioned is is made by Watts. It is called Watts Premier. Does not come with a DI filter though.
Thanks for this! So is it actually zero waste (or close to it at least) and were you able to attach a DI filter? If so was it still zero waste? I found their site last night but didn't get a chance to look at the unit yet.

The wrasses are the crab killers? I don't keep wrasses so I don't know what their habits are. They're obviously quite efficient at it. Poor crabs. ;-)

I don't do it on purpose, I let the last batch go dead middle of the night. They're just very efficient at removing pests, even if I do want them. Halloween crabs have a much tougher shell and thinner opening that our large wrasse can't really negotiate.

Sorry, I wasn't suggesting you're doing it on purpose. I just didn't know wrasses can do that. I like learning new stuff like this. My tank is only a 5g so I don't know much about the larger fish but comments like yours lets me know what to watch out for if I ever get a tank big enough to house them. :)

No problems, sometimes I read my posts and see it can sound brutal towards inverts being we have a predominantly wrasse display tank. Being new keep an open mind when some things read "reef safe with caution".

This can be defined as they're not known to nip/eat coral, however, in a typical reef environment where crabs would be present is when they can be a easy meal for the right type of wrasse/fish and be considered not reef safe.. six of one or half dozen of the other, what do you consider safe ;)

my clown is lazy at night i guess, as it literally hosts a thermometer. Random cave? no. Another random cave? no. Hole in the rock? no. Thermometer? yes. B)
This is hilarious!! This is like my Waldo. I read they mainly live among across but in a tank without them they will seek out the dark places like caves, under the rocks or in the crevices. Not Waldo. He's at the very top of the tank next to his powerhead. So weird! It makes it tough to clean that tank especially when draining the water for a water change. Given he's only an inch below the surface I have to keep refilling the tank as I go along so he won't be exposed to air. I'm sure he would move down to keep below the water but I don't want to risk it. It takes me forever to do a tank cleaning. Haha.

I've seen a lot of threads talking about the hard working fish/inverts we have in our tanks but the spotlight never shines on the lazier, less ambitious members of the tank community. I thought about this because I have acquired one of these members of the ocean. He is a Spotted Coral Croucher. His name is Waldo. Waldo has made his home between the glass and the back of one of my powerheads just below the surface. I already new these guys don't move much. They're shy and cryptic and unless there is a lot of live food that passes by their mouths they need to be target fed. That's fine. I target feed all of my inhabitants regardless. Everyone in the tank knows when the pumps shut down it's feeding time and everyone eagerly gets ready for the buffet. I feed with a medicine dropper so I usually squirt out food a few mm away and the intended recipient moves to the food... but not Waldo (did I say the food is only a couple mm away?). Waldo will not move even a couple mm to get food. What does Waldo do when the pumps go off? He orients himself facing upward and opens his mouth and waits for me to literally squirt food in his mouth. Moving a couple mm for food doesn't happen in Waldo's world (but I still love him anyway). :)

Tell me about yours. Maybe you bought them for a specific task that they haven't lived up to. Can be fish, inverts or whatever.

@blaxsun I saw a comment of yours from Nov. 2021 in a thread that talked about hard working fish and your reply was that the next thread should be about lazy fish. I couldn't find one so this thread is for you. :)

Here is a pic of Waldo just after adding him before he found the powerhead.

I wonder if she'll host a thermometer over a xenia or toadstool (when I get one)
One would hope. Haha. It seems to me some members have found they don't leave their spot even with nems in the tank. Clowns are weird. Haha. You will have to keep us posted. :)

have a smushed fox face.... not a one spot or a 2 spot or a magnificent, just a smush of black - who has never once (in my sight) grazed a thread of algae - hits the nori bar and the shrimp fountain with relish - but never once has it done what I got it for.... oh, and it reminds me of a Rodney Dangerfield joke... " My fish psychologist said you"re lazy, and I said do you mind if I get a second opinion, and he said, yes, you're ugly too..."

I had a conch recently that was incredibly lazy. My first one was such a hard worker that I was surprised when his replacement basically did nothing all day. He died after a few months, so maybe he was just sick or something. I've got another one and his work ethic is improved over his predecessor. Fun little guys. I love their goofy little eyes and their weird trunk. I'll always keep a conch in my tanks, even if he's lazy!

Yes quite easily done as it comes sized in quarter inch. And it is zero waste, The pictures are here in my reply to Ying Yang

my bi colour blenny kind of just perches then swims around but he spends most of his time chilling on the rocks
Sometimes I would not mind having the life of a fish. To spend my life chilling on the rocks wouldn't be a bad life. LOL

It's interesting to read some of the experiences with different creatures like yours. Version 1: Hard worker, Version 2: Feels he was born to just chillax, Version 3: A hybrid of V1 and V2. What is that about? You'd think they would all have the same work ethic genetically hard wired into them but it seems more like a roll of the dice. LOL

This is hilarious!! A fish who thinks he's entitled to be lazy. Aaah to have a fish's life (in this case a smushed fox face) with an all you can eat nori and shrimp bar at his disposal!! :)
