With how fast this hobby progresses each year with new equipment to put in our tank, there's always something we can upgrade in our tanks. I am wondering if you are one of those people who buy the newest products, or if you wait a couple of years before buying it.

I usually wait as the first ones generally have issues. Radion's cracking, Apex EB32's dying, Orphek LED's dying, Mobius connection issues, First maxspect gyres wires wearing down, AI blades exposed wires, Trident NP bad range.. etc.

Reefing to me is like fashion. What went around comes back around. Seeking the latest flashy not always the best approach long term. Sometimes simple like Paul's setup good enough although buying yesterday's new once bugs worked out might make sense. For example, I'll be adding a controller and using ICP-OES which isn't exactly new but seems to have the bugs worked out. Latest fancy roller mat however not in my plans. Old school nature my path forward with a tinge of new and proven along with single dose formate because KISS and hands off my lazy approach and from reading others, seems to work.

Chasing the latest tech including lights might be fun and garner likes but until it's proven functional seems we the consumers the test rats throwing cash at proving others have earned the right to our cash and potential destruction of that painstakingly nurtured and matured.

I am that way with all of my hobbies unfortunately. Luckily, I have calmed down in that aspect and don't do it nearly to the same degree.

I do not upgrade equipment that is doing what I need it to do. My hobby is reefing not collecting and playing with high tech gear. Nothing wrong with it as it adds a whole new hobby so you have two hobbies combined into one. Tech just isn't my thing. Probably has to do with my age. I dealt with plenty of technology as an auto repair technician in a new car dealership. To be honest I got sick of it and the problems that come with it so I retired.
