Just wondering why this algae isn't growing in the sump but is growing in the display so badly

Shouldn't grow anywhere if you ask me. What are your phosphate levels at? Should be at zero!! Yours aren't if your having hair algae.
Get some phoszorb from seachem and it should start to clear in about 2-3 weeks. I'm just surprised the ho2o didn't help? Did you include your sump to the amount of water you have (with your DT) ???

It isn't hair algae. Its a nasty brown snot that eventually starts to grow upwards in big globs with an air bubble in the the strand. But it isn't growing in the sump. Just display

Are you adding new rock or playing with your lighting? Or just over feeding and don't have enough flow? I had those problems too,,, but by doing what I mentioned above?
Add lots of phoszorb, it will help a lot. Tone down your lights half way for about a month (tone down more the white, not the blue) and then slowly bring them back up. It will help you out by creating more bacteria quicker in a darker environment and help the algae die off

No I haven't added any live rock. All rock is the same as day one. Only thing I changed was I went from a 4 bulb 20 inch T5 fixture to a 6 bulb 24 inch T5 fixture. Maybe it was that? I run the actinics from 1-9 and the daylights from 1:30 to 8:30

All sounds ok to me, just maybe the lights?

I'm gonna keep trying the h2o2 for a few days. I'm gonna change the stock bulbs to 6 ati bulbs and see if that helps. If that doesn't do it then it will be a tear down and restart

It took my tank 3 months to get used to my lighting, don't care what anyone says
I personally wouldn't change the lighting just let the tank work it out
Ho2o will kill off hair algae, you don't have that. You have brown Cyanobacteria I think.

That's not necessarily true. Algae in the tank can be a symptom of phosphates but you can still test at 0 since the algae is absorbing it and giving you an inaccurate reading. It's important to check your PO4 levels but if you already have a large bloom the readings most likely will be off. The trick is to catch the PO4 before the algae starts growing and consuming it.

I don't want to change the lighting because of the dinos. The bulbs that came with the fixture are just your everyday actinic and 12000k daylight that make the tank look yellow. So I want to switch them all to some ati blue +, Fiji purple, and maybe a coral bulb. The blue color after change may also help with the algae growth

Try a black light for a bit, just for your pleasure!!! Don't keep it on for more than 20-30 min. Use as a black spot light to see the best colours ever!!! It is a violet light so don't run it, just use it for pleasure here and there,,, at night or when your friends come over (20-30min tops).
I think it's how pros really get the nicest pics of their corals, inverts and fish

I'm thinking of starting to dose hydrogen peroxide now. I have a 25 gallon with 5 gallon sump. Mostly softies with LPS and a little sps. I saw the rule of 1ml for every 10 gallons. Is that what everyone is doing? Can I just drop it in my tank or do I need to target the algae to get results? Do I need to worry about any of my corals reacting poorly? I already dip all my zoas in h2o2 but never anything else so I'm just nervous. I have tried everything else though to get rid of my gha and nothing has been successful. H2o2 already wipes it out on my zoa frags so I know it does work on a small scale. Any additional advice before diving in?

I have just been dumping the h2o2 straight into my sump. A week now and I've seen no ill effects on corals or livestock. I have a question for you though Jason. When you dip your zoas, do you dip just the plug? Or do submerge the entire frag, coral and all?

I submerge the whole thing, corals and all, and let it sit for a bit. I usually wait until I can see bubbles forming on the algae. The algae will also turn a bit of a pale green color instead of the darker green it was before. It is also a much more concentrated dose, a couple cap fulls for only a couple cups of water. I have done it with both saltwater and rodi. I have only tried this with zoas though.

Another question, i didn't see it answered below, will it effect my macro? I have cheato in my sump.

That I cannot answer for you as I don't have any. But if I remember reading right I dont believe it does. Might want to Google that one first to make sure or wait for someone to chime in
