Thanks for the clarification, to be honest, I probably would have made many of the same mistakes, since knowledge of dinos is limited and identification is difficult, it's no surprise this hobbyist tried everything in the book to try to beat what he called brown snot/slime algae.

The question is, did and can Cuprisorb beat them?

Removing iron could possibly stop them but I like I said its a thin line since all algae require iron. Could end up killing all aglae and the corals too...

Like I said earlier though I do see dinos in areas where there is excesses iron in the tap water. Very well could be you lower iron enough dinos may stop.

Fact is in tank with fuges I saw less dinos. I believe the macros can out competed the dinos for some nutrient or nutrients. But when nutrients got lower (phosphate) dinos took off but macros can not survive at lower nutrient levels. What were they competing against? Could have been iron. Very well macros can out compete dinos for iron but not phosphate.

Also in my early days of reef keeping I never saw dinos and in them days it was normal to grow macros right in the tank for nutrient control and nutrients were much higher in our tanks back then than what most people have now.

This also explains why when people start lowering nutrients dinos get worse. Add phosphate remover dinos get worse, do more water changes dinos get worse.

Here is a kicker though I have seen post where people have claimed adding iron to their system cleared up dino's.

here is the thing everything on dino every thing is Anecdotal.

Im having this same problem and it is in its infancy. Id like to nip it in the but now because this stuff grows explosively. Im running GFO and Bio pellets with MB7. Im stopping the MB7 dosing but should I cut off the bio pellet and gfo reactors?

If you read page 1 of this thread you will find what one hobbyist did to get rid of them and you will see that he was successful in eradicating them FYI ...

Basically and in short he used the H2O2 dosing method and got rid of them in a few days and if I remember correctly in about 3 or 4 days, but if you go there (page 1) you can read the message on what he did and how much he added.

FYI I did read page one and it makes no mention of stopping the use of reactors. I have tried peroxide on frags and it worked great. I have been dosing peroxide to my tank with the lights on to no avail. Ill try with the lights off as suggested in the thread.

I've been doing 1 ml per 10 gallon on my tank twice a day. For a week and cut my lights back to half what they were. My tank looks a lot better than what it did when I started. I haven't done a wc sense I've been dosing. Just keep a close eye on your parameters and I think you will be ok.

1ml per 10g of true water volume, dosed daily for 8 days in a row. There is no need for a water change. This is adding a third oxygen molecule (H2O2) to your system, so the water change would be pointless. Plus with Dinoflagellates (it's important that you know for sure that is what you are dealing with, not some other type of issue), water changes often encourage more growth from this troublesome bacteria.

If you see a lot of it in your tank, siphon it out with some small diameter tubing. This will siphon out the snotty substance but not take out a lot of water.

Water change is needed at the end of the threatment (after 2 weeks) like a regular water change; not after each dose :)

These are not dinoflagellates. How long has this tank been running? It looks more like nuisance algae taking hold, and diatoms. How many snails per gallon do you have in the tank, and how many hours a day are you running your lights?

6 hours a day, with t5s. I have tried to snap a picture of the algae with some bubbles on the tips of them. I had a 105 gallon tank setup, and then downgraded to this and transfered everything over. The original tank was up in march of this year. This current tank has been up since august
