I’ve been listening to phish a bit lately. There was a couple years in college where I hardly listened to anything else. Saw them 13 times. It’s fun to go back to an old favorite when you burn yourself out on your current playlists. I started listening to REM again a few years ago and I still haven’t had enough.

Reminded me of a New Years Show at Madison Square Garden.
Ate a bunch of mushrooms and "Ran Like an Antelope" (out of control)

LOL...……...ah....youth.

I still see Pearl Jam every chance I get.
Their live shows are legendary.
Not because of laser lights, fire, 100s of dancers, or auto tune.
But, because they have a prolific song writer in Vedder, and an absolute (but under rated) shredder in Mike McCready.
And, also, because of the fans that go to the shows.

I even made it a point to catch a Slayer show on their "farewell" tour. Less blood and bikers but still that unmistakable sound and feel.
Might even catch the Rage Against the Machine reunion IF they are playing close to me.

I've seen, live, the best of the 90s bands: Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, RHCP, Beasties, etc etc etc...…and, to an extent, they still get the majority of "iPod" time in my playlists, but, as Im getting older, Im getting into Tedeschi Trucks Band, Sturgill Simpson, Chris Stapleton....etc etc etc.....
Tedeschi Trucks is a great show. Wood Brothers were touring with them, which got me in to them.

Marilyn Manson was coming out for a show and cancelled due to coronavirus. I was heavily considering going as we don’t get many concerts where I live.

Saw Pearl Jam in KC about 20 years ago. Poured rain in the lawn seats. We were soaked, no one left. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen. I love Eddie. He’s a big Cubs fan. Seen him in the booth plenty of times. “Someday we’ll go all the way” Is like a special little gift he gave saps like me. I love that song.

Two pages of groups and songs listed and that was the first one I had heard of before. I am feeling really old right now.

I think if I did the things now that I used to do then, I’d need a week of recovery. Love when they pull out the trampolines and play bouncing around the room. It’s pretty amazing how the crowd bounces in unison. I think that’s why they’re called magic mushrooms.

lucky for me I just discovered all this the last couple of years. I was stuck on, and now burned out on, "classic rock".
concerts.... I feel bad for young people now. paid $25 scalped to see RUSH front row. $50 to see The Who, 4th row at Masonic Auditorium. it's just stupid now with what it cost. $200+ for no-mans land tix the see the Stones. like they need the $$.

Any arena shows, doesn’t matter if it’s rock, rap, pop, classic rock...are stupid expensive. It’s just supply and demand. There’re tons of great bands playing outside the local basketball arena. In Chicago, where I live, all of these venues have shows with nationally touring bands constantly. They are rarely over $30, beers aren’t $12, and you are close enough to see the facial expressions of the band. I spent my 20s and 30s in these places and they’re still going strong:

-Metro
-Subterranean
-Bottom Lounge
-Beat Kitchen
-Thalia Hall
-Park West
-Cobra Lounge
-Schuba’s
-Vic
-Riv
-Aragon
-Empty Bottle
-Hideout
-Concord theater

Haha. I’m so far removed from what I used to know. I could only find them on the trampolines during you enjoy myself. Bouncing around the room just made sense in my head.

Chicago was such a great place for music for me growing up. When I went to Kansas for college, my friends and I would still drive to Chicago for shows. So many great venues.

Did you get a chance to see "Let's Play Two" from PJ?

Being a cubs fan, I think you'd like it.

I was feeling like music died and then started actively looking for new bands and there is all types of great new stuff.

I discovered Ghost 2 years ago and feel like a kid again going to all their concerts and eagerly awaiting new releases.

I’m down, but this music is 30 years old. Moe is playing where I’m at soon. Sadly all the concerts here are too expensive because they’re all in casinos. Phish will be here in July. Tix are sold out, but it’s an outdoor show, so you can listen from beyond the gates. My friends have been talking up a band called twiddle to me. I haven’t checked them out yet.

Twiddle are from Vermont. Funny thing is I have never heard any of their stuff, but one of my deadhead buddies who does security on the Burlington waterfront shows talks them up....he even babysat Grace Potter.

My wife was on the activity board of a Vermont college when Phish played a dining hall tour, she got to serve them sandwiches.

Makes sense. My friends are big dead heads. Their kid is charlie(cosmic of course), and their dog is franklin( ‘s tower of course).
When I first moved to Tahoe, I hung out with a bunch of grads from university of Vermont. They all had stories about running into phish band members.

my buddy is David grismans nephew. He was supposed to invite me to grismans kids bat mitzvah years ago, but I guess it was all talk. Oh well. He’s got a funny story about how grisman hooked him up with a stash that willie Nelson left at his place.

Im only 20 but I hate modern music, I wish I was around in the 80's with bands like New Order, Ultravox, Human League, Blondie, just to name a few.
I also love the 60's, names too numerous to mention, My first love is classical music, Beethoven is a God in my eyes, Bach, Grieg, Tchaikovsky, I play Bassoon in the local orchestra which is one of my passions.
If I was to list my favourite non classical it would be,
Pink Floyd
New Order
Simon and Garfunkel
The Beach Boys.
I think what music has missing today is harmony and lyrics, in my opinion lyrics are the most important part of non classical music, I also think that modern music will not stand the test of time like bands and singers from the 60's to the 80's/early 90's.

Music isn't dead. Heartless, maybe, but not dead.

My older sister figured out as a teenager that IF she brought her little brother along, she was much more likely to be able to go to concerts. So... from about 1983, I started going to concerts. Divorced family, Mom was in KC, Dad was in LA, we split our time between them.

I saw Henry Rollins front Black Flag at an Elk's lodge in Stockton CA , would have been 1984... man, that was some show. Probably ruined me for other kinds of music. I was 14. Still the best show I've ever seen.

Sis really liked the girl groups... The Runaways were over by then, but saw Joan Jett (many times), The GoGo's, the Bangles, Linda Ronstadt, Heart...

Got to see Queen, Kansas, Journey, Floyd, Rush, ZZTop, Fleetwood Mac, ELO... many others. Lots of big names, but I always kept running back to Punk... The Ramones, Dead Kennedys, Misfits, Heck I've even been to several Green Day shows over the last decade. I'll always be a punk at heart.
