I love Tchaikovsky!!! Genius
Interestingly, I work in a kindergarten and they have posters up of Bach, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven and a few others. They really push kids to learn the good old stuff in Asia.

Which city do you live in?

San Diego has a ton of off-the-radar clubs and bars where people can share music and bring their own vinyls to play.

I relate heavily to several modern musicians who make music for personal reasons, as well as to honor their heroes.

Fighting Opinion (because you’re clearly a stubborn guy and I want to annoy you lol):

Thrice fell off when they tried to be the next Radiohead. They’re a Christian punk band and everyone would be happier if they stopped trying to be Thom Yorke and just screamed about death and bones and stuff.

Lol

I’m nowhere near San Diego (great city btw)

I’m super stubborn

And Thrice turned things around after getting experimental. Their 2016 album was amazing. Very melodic and well thought out. And one song on that album is called death from above. I guess that qualifies for death and bones.

Frightened rabbit > brand new > thrice
Brand New’s most recent album Science Fiction is really great. They also had the best concert I’ve ever been to when they played in Honolulu. As an apology for never playing there, they played their entire catalog. Never heard of Frightened Rabbit. Will check that out.

As a kid who listened to punk, growing up in Hawaii was tough. Luckily thrice and AFI loved playing in Hawaii. The strokes would often come and play unadvertised small gigs.

I was a huge AFI fan when I was growing up in Hawaii. I missed their concert sadly. (I think they came once?). AFI stopped being good after The Art of Drowning.

A quick list of my current favorite (active) musicians:

Kurt Vile. He makes chill music for fun and with his friends. Always collaborating. Good vibes all around.

Japandroids. Amped up stadium rock anthems.

Father John Misty. Probably the best storyteller out there. He’s dark, tormented, and will probably burn out tomorrow.

Sturgill Simpson. ****** southern rock/country.

with that said, my favorite musicians include Neil young, CCR, Dylan, willie Nelson, Roy Orbison, ray Charles, etc. there’s still good new music out there though.

I forgot all about anabananas. I saw Leftover Crack when they played there. Craziest concert ever. I think I blame anabananas for some of my deafness. Used to watch local bands play there every week. Pipeline was the best place for concerts though. You could get right up there.

I started going to pink flamingos around 2002 maybe. Then coffee talk in kaimuki was the hot place for awhile. Kind of stopped around 2007 maybe. Lose Money was one of my fave local bands. 86 list was pretty good too
