Hi I’m relatively new to reef keeping and started up this 15 gallon about 3-4 months ago. I already had what I’m pretty sure was a small Dyno outbreak which I treated with a 3 day blackout, water change, manually scrubbing the rocks as well as a few doses of Dynox and that seemed to solve the problem. I now have this new nuisance in my tank.
It’s much more crimson/red/purple than my Dyno outbreak which was mainly brown. It comes off of glass and rock pretty easily and a few treatments of dynox have done nothing. All this leads me to believe it is not a Dyno outbreak.

In addition to the pictures I’ve attached there was also some in a stringy patter on the sand bed (a very small amount in a small areas). I know the pictures are not great but in some parts it looks to be stringing off the rock

I don’t know if it’s Cyano? Purple turf algae? Or what?

I would really appreciate any help with identifying and treating.

All of my parameters seem to be fine, I havnt checked phosphate yet waiting for a kit

Adding harsh chemicals to a nano tank is going to make your first year ugly phases last much much longer then a typical year. Patience is the key to success in this hobby. You mentioned diatoms. These are harmless new tank algae that requires no black out or chemicals. They just go away on their own in a few weeks when your sand silicate is gone.

Yep. As stated above.

With these initial outbreaks, it's just best to continue good Husbandry and let the issues come and go. With my last tank, I didn't do anything and saw a pretty good ugly phase. I did some manual removal and routine water changes and all went well.

I don’t mean to hijack this thread so tell me if i’m not at the right place, ive only recently started using R2R!!

I have have this algea in my tank for a while. I buttommed my No3 and po4 when I switched from my 90g to my 145g cause I added a much bigger sump with refugium and a better skimmer (reefoctopus 150ss)

I have been letting the algea do its thing, but have recently had problems with corals diying, mind you I had a very rough year personally speaking so I hadn’t have as much time as I wouldve liked. Do yoo think this is green algea, or dinos?

I can't see the video but if you have large size substrate then it can grown algae on it like any other large surface on your tank.
