And here we are still and I don’t know what dry rock means. Lol
Need some definitions and parameters to narrow the focus. Also by inefficient it seems like you may mean ineffective or unstable.

In my scenario so far with dry ocean rock that been in 2 aquariums, it’s definitely been inefficient Because it is going to take months I believe to get all the phosphates out of my old ocean rock as well as I bought a reactor to run GFO which I also bought.
I’m quantifying my inefficiency by testing for phosphates, smell, and clarity at this point. It would have been ineffective or unstable for my tank if I had not decided to continue curing it as I’m sure the phosphates would have caused major issues. But due to my inefficient method I believe I will have success with old dry ocean rock… eventually.

First off.. feel free to delete if this is off base. This feels like opinion more than research, I tend to think of research as scientific theory. Hypothesis, test, results...
I really do love this thread. I'm a newbie just over a year in saltwater and fumbling through everything. That said. I am moving up to a new tank fresh start. And I have 120lbs of dry rock from BRS some Marco, so just bulk... I started with dry rock in my first foray and now I know why I fought a phosphate battle for 4 months... so I think I will determine my process for setting up my tank and using the dry rock and try to document some of my steps and outcomes. My goal is to be able to start moving fish and coral 60 days after start up, but time will tell. I will take some live rock from current take to help establish, or maybe not? Maybe I start with just pure from scratch.. open to input if you feel I should truly try 1 thing or another. But truly thanks to everyone that commented in here. I try to digest as much information as I can to help my decisions... such as.. anyone need some splash proof bleach for laundry... got several bottles that I won't use as planned. Lol

HAVE YOU EVER KEPT A RARE/UNCOMMON FISH, CORAL, OR INVERT? SHOW IT OFF IN THE THREAD!
