Coraline Algae?

So it looks like Coraline Algae to me but wanted a second opinion. See the attached photos.

This is in my 5 gallon invert quarantine tank. It's been there for a few months now. Seems to be very slowly growing. If it is indeed Coraline Algae it must have hitch hiked on one of the inverts I quarantined.

Funny thing is I purchased some bottles of Coraline spores and put them in the 75 gallon DT with zero effect. I'm actually still having issues with diatoms in the DT after about a year and I've been trying just about everything to get rid of the diatoms.

Doesn't look like coralline to me maybe cyano or red slime algae

I haven't run my finger across it to feel it like that post says. I'll give it a try when I get back home.

That being said it doesn't seem to want to come off with my attempts.

Not necessarily, if it hits air it might not form before on rock. But it doesn't look like Coraline to me...

I have something that looks very similar in my tank too. I don't mind it on the back glass, but the growth on the rocks has stopped my zoanthids in their tracks. They will not grow over this stuff for whatever reason. When I do water changes now I smother what I can with epoxy. GL.

There has also been a bit of this on the clip for the heater. Being that this is a tiny quarantine tank the only actual exposed plastic in the water is the heater clip which is tiny and the tiny wave maker which was added after this stuff showed up when I started some coral quarantine. The rest is rubbery type stuff which even that is a very small amount. The rock was just the easiest to see for posting photos.

I'm not home so can't get a targeted photo but here is one that kinda shows the whole quarantine tank 2 1/2 months ago when I added the wave maker and coral frags/frag holder. You can see the tiny red spots that are shown in the OP photos.

Some sponges are beneficial and others are not. It sounds like someone else who answered in the thread has a similar sponge that their zoas won’t grow over which makes me think you probably want to clear it out at the very least by maybe scraping it off and see if it comes back.
