yeah, i’ve read on here that even then it’s possible to still have it. i would rather buy from somewhere reputable instead of taking action after

I’m not aware of any business with no pests on their coral. Some are better than others though. Aiptasia can be snipped off the plug with bone cutters (removing part of the plug), or remove the entire plug and remount the coral. I have no aiptasia because I have no wrasses. I find they eat most everything that eats aiptasia. But if one pops up, I use Aiptasia X on it for 10 minutes with flow off.

i’ve heard jason fox is pretty reputable with his QT methods.
even a single cell on the coral itself will infect a tank

@Battlecorals has a pretty thorough QT process. I saw a video about it a while back but can't find it. I'll post a thread below where Adam described his process. I've placed a few orders and have not seen any pests. Not sure what coral type your looking for, battle specializes in SPS

Some vendors are better than others, but aiptasias and other "pests" are just part of the natural environment and as such there is always a chance that they will be present even with the best effort.
sure, i guess my question is more asking for sites with the best QT
i honestly just hate the way they look. terrifying and scary and i don’t want to see any in my new tank
maintenance is a normal part of the hobby.. yes, but they honestly just scare me

I would say that most don't "QT" in the manner in which you think they do and depending on the coral, it could have been in their system for months or for as little as days or hours. At volume there is no way that every coral out the door is inspected with a microscope, if even looked at.

Your best bet is to get setup to do your own inspection and "QT" for incoming stuff. But at the same time, don't worry so much about aiptasia. It will likely end up in your system one way or the other at some point. I would be more concerned about bad nudibranchs and flatworms...

most sure, but some vendors do which is what i’m looking for
i will end up observing them for awhile anyway. i’d just rather buy nice than deal with it later

They can actually be quite beautiful under certain lighting. I was feeding this on in my sump for a while until it disappeared. I keep natural predators (peppermint shrimp and CBB) so I don't see them in the display very often.

Trying to avoid things like Aiptasia is going to be almost impossible. You are going to get it no matter how much you QT as it will some how find a way into your tank. Just keep some peppermint shrimp and you won't have that problem. I have seen one or two come up but in a day or so they are gone. Can't expect to ever 100% avoid thing like that. Expect flatworms one day too because it will happen if it hasn't already. Just take care of it when you do see it pop up and not just ignore it.

I just had my first pop up. I was excited. I named him George. George is dead now.
Check out the show off your aiptasia thread. It’s quite nice.

lol. I think they are beautiful in their own way. In the ocean. Not in my tank.

Yeah if they werent quite so invasive i'd keep them in my display tank. Had one big one in a corner i liked but as soon as I saw 3 little ones pop up under it the fun was over and i nuked it.

I am not sure if there is any vendor that can claim 100% pest free corals , and if they do , that's quite a rare track record. Lol. Best way to move forward is to assume at some point you'll introduce aiptasia , but there are quite a few options for aiptasia predators , and ways to eradicate it. What some people do is set up a quarantine tank for new coral frags and let them grow out for a month or two to make sure nothing pops up before placing in the pest free display. Hope this helps !
