Good Morning,

I bought these 2 corals about 2 months ago. Just seeing if anyone has their opinion in regards to health, etc.

I’ve noticed the devils hand is very moody and shrinks up a lot of times, while the Duncan appears very healthy and is generally always open and as grown a little bit. I’m a little concerned about the Devils hand, it hasn’t grown much at all and is very moody and shrinks down flaccid sometimes. I haven’t fed it anything as I’ve read it is photosynthetic.

Ps. I know they’re still on a frag plug, just a temporary placement till my glue comes in.

Thanks!

I would raise the duncan off the sandbed. It likes to wave around in the flow and needs space for it to grow, cause they can grow fast. Put it up on the rocks somewhere.

Make sure the devils hand has enough flow tucked into that corner like that, they like flow as well. They also like some measurable nitrate and phosphate in the water. Those rocks are looking kind of clean so maybe this is a new tank? A new tank will be cleaner, which is not a bad thing, but the coral will take time to acclimate. Its looking good, its polyps are out. As long as it doesn't melt or turn white, don't worry about it and just let it acclimate.

Thank you for your feedback! Yes my tank is about 6 months old. So the devils hand has sometimes looks like its "melting" but a few hours later its looks normal. I will definitely move the Devils hand in a spot with some good flow.

Leather corals shrink up sometimes. I see mine shrink up and I don't even think about it now. Its very normal, sometimes can even shrink for a day or two. But they are very hardy and in the picture it looks healthy to me, I think its fine.
