DAILY QUESTION: Over the last month (during the course of this contest), have you learned anything new about coral growth or thought of something new you want to try?
I want to try one of those Tunze calcium reactors!
I don’t recall learning about anything new from this thread regarding coral growth but I don’t remember much about last week most of the time anymore. It was nice to read about what other people know and have experienced and that makes me think.
Thanks for the contest daily questions that have been posted each day. The discussion was fun and interesting reading the various responses to the questions.
Many people love the hobby and the challenge to succeed at keeping coral reefs alive at home. It’s a weird niche we occupy and it’s encouraging to have like minded people participating here and sharing their experiences.
Someone’s going to win a cool prize but we all have enjoyed the fun of the game.
Thanks Daniel and Tunze for bringing us all together.
Single best thing: Auto dosing AFR to keep my alkalinity in check. Next stop will probably be kalk.
Managing alkalinity has been my biggest challenge yet. I'm adding quite a few SPS and it's amazing at the drop that can happen. Both of my office tanks are considered 'nano' and it's a tough challenge! I'm starting to see more and more though that my corals are responding well.

I've been reading about control a lot and would like to dip my fins into an entry level Hydros controller, particularly for leak detection and water level sensing/controlling.

I have yet to go to a frag swap but Im nearing completion of my frag tank build so hopefully next year i can have a couple frag worth trading. The reef trading scene is pretty big here in florida.

I recently learned that lighting changes may have more impact then I previously thought. I have heard it can take weeks or months for a coral to adjust and get back to peak growth rate.

I would say coral growth came when I upgraded from a fluval 13.5 to a wb 40.1 with a sump. I noticed coral growth.

What has been the single best thing you've done to help boost coral growth in your tank?
Weekly 10% water. Replenish all the goodies missing.
This small reactor would be perfect for my small 45G tank. It looks compact, I like it.

I'd say the emergency drain right to the base of the weirs, primary can potentially be no pipe. Thank you! I'll go do that. I forgot about the gate valve too. Earlier I was wondering how come so much water is coming into the sump and bubbling. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:
