DAILY QUESTION: What has been the biggest setback you've experienced in growing corals? How did you bounce back
5 day power outage. I bought a generator to be prepared for the future. Tok a few months to absorb the amount of loss I had. And I rebuilt slowly

QOTD:

Proper lighting and proper water quality. It all depends on the coral I suppose, but some of my Pavonas get their best coloration in full shade while others get their best in direct light. Micromussa are similar, higher light to get more of some colors and lower light for others.

Good amount of lighting and flow. Then maintain stable levels of nutrients and food.

DAILY QUESTION: How do you get the best color you can from your corals? Any tips to help the rest of us?
Looking for tips myself. But my color improvements have come from making sure nutrients are above zero. Specifically fish nutrients. Dosing phosphates kept corals alive, but they didn’t color up until I got more fish.

DAILY QUESTION: Do you feed your coral? If so, what are your favorite coral food and feeding techniques? If not, why not?
Well, that's to be determined, direct feeding or broadcast, not sure until I populate the tank. What ever is best for a happy coral will have to be done

DAILY QUESTION: Do you feed your coral? If so, what are your favorite coral food and feeding techniques? If not, why not?
None at the moment, tank still dry. But I plan on making my own DIY fish food so maybe some smaller grated shrimp and fish may be good for direct coral feeding

DAILY QUESTION: How do you get the best color you can from your corals? Any tips to help the rest of us?
None yet . But based on my failure to grow corals 3 decades ago, I plan to cover all the basics with lighting, flow and water parameters, including PH, ALK, and trace minerals to give them the best shot at being happy and showing their best colors

DAILY QUESTION: What has been the biggest setback you've experienced in growing corals? How did you bounce back?
The most challenging thing recently was dealing with RTN/STN with my sps and some of my lps. Lost all sps and a few micromussa's and favia. Turned out being a rusted nut plate in my return pump housing

DAILY QUESTION: What's your thoughts on nutrients in a reef tank? Are they good or bad? How do you manage them?
I think nutrients are fine as long as theyre balanced. As long as everything looks happy I dont try to chase numbers. To manage everything I just let my refugium do its thing

From personal experience: the fish and coral do NOT like popcorn.

DAILY QUESTION: How important is flow in coral growth? What have you found to be the best way to get the right flow for keeping corals healthy and thriving?
Definitely important and even more of a struggle with a mixed reef lagoon tank. Currently running 3 Ai Nero's so i can adjust the flow in certain areas, but also use the rock work to block/reduce flow for some of my lps.

DAILY QUESTION: Do you feed your coral? If so, what are your favorite coral food and feeding techniques? If not, why not?
I currently use AB+ and occasionally feed reef roids. I just received a sample of coral dust so im going to give that a try. I'll also spot feed my lps mysis when im feeling froggy
