So my Copperband has been in the tank for 4 days now and it seems he somehow has a bruise of sorts today. He was grazing the rocks for pods fine yesterday but seems to have stopped today. My question is simple, do you think this will result in his death or not? I do not have a qt set up at the moment and I don’t think he could handle the stress of catching him anyways.

I see some fin damage, could the bruise have resulted from an attack by another fish? What other fish are in the tank with it?

The stopping feeding is a bad sign. There is a disease that causes fish to have a "bruise", but it isn't a real physical injury, it is from an internal protozoan (Uronema) that really cannot be treated. Newly acquired fish are most prone to it and copperbands are one species that we see it in.

Can you try posting a video?

Here is an article I wrote on Uronema:

As for being attacked by another fish I don’t think so. I do have some boisterous fish in the tank with him but they were all introduced at the same time mainly the Powder Blue and I have seen no such aggression. I did net him when I put him in so I thought it might be that or the high sps levels of flow in the tank.

I hope it’s not Uronema as I have heard terrible things about it.

I will make my first YouTube video now.

Here is a short video Mr. Jay. Sorry if it’s low quality as it’s my first ever and it’s only an iPad camera.

Thanks, ye. I knew from the get go it would be challenging but he seems to have been enjoying the multitude of pods along with nibbling at some Masstick yesterday. So I thought he was going to be fine.

Maybe he is just full atm? I know that prob not the case but I am somewhat hopeful.

Here is a better video of just the Copperband.
Can’t see much wrong physical.
Looks and acts like mine for the most part.

But must eat both frozen and pods.

Gets uneasy with fast swimmers, but hasn’t had much time to adapt yet.

But of course, keep a close watch on him.

I know it's not an option for everyone but it really helps if the fish can be placed in a tank alone or with another non aggressive fish to get them fat and eating out of the water column before adding them to the display. I had mine (2nd one) in a tote with live rock and recently moved everything to an old tank I had and added a melanurus wrasse which I'm doing observation on. It just really increases the odds of them making it in the display IME. His fins are a bit tattered becuase I tried pairing him with another and it didn't go well.

What’s had he fed on in the past?
Mine loves Mysis of any kind. PE Mysis the most as it is a larger variety of Mysis.

Gotta get him to eat.

I followed this advice and it worked great with any fish, especially the CopperBand, notorious for not eating, or eating and stopping.

It increases the odds of success a ton IMM.

Nothing but pods and ( Maybe ) some Masstick. I placed some Masstick strategical where he was feeding yesterday and he did nip at it twice.

I would like to note that even though I have 3 fairy wrasses and a mandarin dragonet ( which actually prefers sinking pellets now ) there is a plethora of isopods and amphipods in the tank.

So your saying when he went in, he pecked at pod type stuff, a taste of masstick and then stopped…is that correct?

Was it shipped or did you pick up?

If shipped, what was the shipper feeding before you got him….do you know that?

What’s he do to a Mysis shrimp, just swim away?

Yes, he was picking at the rocks all day yesterday along with having a taste of the Masstick.
Is the masstick the only thing you feed?
Mine hates it…
He’s more of a meaty type feeder, so Mysis, Brine for sure, feeds aggressively with 4 large tangs.

imo, pods alone simply are NOT enough for a CBB. Even with a ton of them. This is pretty evident as your cbb is VERY skinny. The bruise does not look good at all, he's almost nursing it as he swims. I have mine in an sps tank and he's fine with obnoxious flow, but I didn't intro him to the tank that way. Initially flow was low, and he was lone in the tank, and eating from the store.

Get him to eat asap - mysis, mastik, whatever
