Hi everyone,

I’m about to QT a pair of flame scooters, both are eating well. I’m just wondering if people known how well these guys handle copper?

I’ll be treating with cupramine, will the 0.5mg/ltr level be ok for them? (Plan to raise to that level over 4 days)

If referring to scooter blenny, I do not recommend copper and it would be coppersafe but rather General Cure or even chloroquine Phosphate.

Yes flame scooters blenny/dragonette, I’m not sure if we can get those treatments in the UK unfortunately…

the lfs has had them at 2.25ppm (they keep all the fish system at a therapeutic level generally). The female has been in that for a while (around 8 weeks) but the male will have only come in this week.

Does this mean they do not do well in copper?

Often, dont do well in copper/coppersafe.

Cupramine is an ionic copper and is more stressful than coppersafe is. You could use coppersafe, or try chloroquine.

What about hyposalinity?
I could do hypo, I’ll look into it. I just can’t deal with another Fallow and trying to catch out my royal gramma again from the DT… absolute nightmare. Need to be 100% sure the dragonettes won’t introduce anything.

We can’t get either in the UK.
I’ll have to do a TTM and prazipro.

TTM is designed for ich, so it won’t work against direct development protozoans.

You could go with hyposalinity - that would cover you against ich and flukes at the same time, but it doesn’t treat velvet.

How long would QT need to be to ensure velvet isn’t present in the new fish After hypo treatment?

That’s a tough question - some fish vets say 21 days, but that’s if the tank has no fish in it. Fish can possibly harbor a chronic infection for some unknown period of time.
