In this hobby most things that are truly rare or unique are only so due to PRICE. A prime example of a rare fish in the hobby due to price is a Candy Basslet:

However I hope this thread can bring to light some common fish that people have in their tanks that are unique due to an interesting characteristic.

My unique, common fish is my one eyed watchman goby:

How can something be common and unique? That is an oxymoron, completely opposite meaning. If it is common then it is not unique, and if it is unique then it is not common.

Oxymoron: a figure of speech in which apparently contradictory terms appear in conjunction.
I don't think I am insulting anybody. Certainly, I don't mean to insult anybody.

Well, all the species are unique in that no other species has the same look. I stand by what I said common but unique is an oxymoron.

A human is common but some people have unique features like an extra finger, toe, some people may have a genetic mutation like albinoism, etc.. They are talking about a unique characteristic not the fish itself. Therefore it is not an oxymoron.

Could even be a fish with a weird design that isn't normal.

Flaming prawn goby
Honestly, I couldn’t agree more! I loved my guy - went on 3-4 years.

Also my Linear Blenny (Escenius lineatus) their colour is unique to the tank their in I’ve found. He had all the gold vertical lines in my 4’ tank but only the horizontal lines in my nano.

Maybe "common" should be replace by somewhat-easily-obtained? :0)

Then you're describing a fish that many people could get yet many people don't have. I would have suggested a swale's basslet as it's not quite as striking as the candy but still really cool. Costs significantly less yet not many people have them. Though I no longer have one it was a very cool fish to watch. One of those fish where it's kind of a treat to see it because it wouldn't be out all the time.

Hey! I was kinda going for "common" hobby fish with a "unique" characteristic. My watchman goby with one eye is an example, and so would a blue hippo tang missing its tail. A famous fish that comes to mind is WWC Casper (the white yellow tang).

I agree, though, swales is a nice fish!
