Just put a order in for my 80g rimless. Having second thoughts about adding the feed door, any opinions on if its actually needed?

I feed small enough pellets that they would fall through the net, and defrost frozen food in rodi so I could pour that thorough net as well.... Just don't know if I'm missing something big lol.

Pouring frozen food through would get nasty.
You could just lift the screen with your left while pouring with your right if you don't want the door.

Will do. Hopefully it's a good tight fit and not a big gap as someone posted a few pages back. Do you need me to confirm dimensions for the 80 or do you guys have it down? @ArtFully Acrylic

Hi, I would like to inquire about my order. I have not heard anything since placing the order on June 19th. I only want to make sure that my custom needs are clear before it is made. Order # AAIC5383. Thanks!

Hi Mike, we have sent you an email to clarify your requested modifications. We generally finalize this info when it comes time to program your lid which is generally done only a few days before it's cut. As for lead time, custom lids are currently 4-6 weeks from time of order till ship in most all cases.

Got my replacement lid in the mail today and it is stunning! Cutout for the feeding door and apex autofeeder is absolutely perfect and my fish will appreciate this for years to come!

Shoutout to Artfully Acrylic for fantastic customer service. My first lid was missing the feeding door due to a (now fixed) issue with their site but they sent out a replacement and a shipping label to send back the first. I'll post photos later when I get out my camera

Awesome Harold! Glad you like it =). We DEFINITELY look forward to the pics!!

Feed doors are definitely popular for frozen feedings. If you are only feeding twice a month, and on a smaller tank like this, you should have zero problems simply removing the lid for your feedings. Daily feedings however, I would personally want the feed door even though lid removal is easy enough.

Will do. Hopefully it's a good tight fit and not a big gap as someone posted a few pages back. Do you need me to confirm dimensions for the 80 or do you guys have it down? @ArtFully Acrylic

That customer was taken care of Alan. Long lids can be easily pulled in by the mesh tension. Not as common with shorter lids. Our standard, even on larger lids, is to ensure lid frame bow is less than 1/8" front and back. Do also keep in mind that we have no control over any gap caused by the bowing of your front tank panel however as this varies by manufacturer and tank spec. This is part of why the mounting tabs are 3/8" proud from the inset portion of the ClearView Lids to account for some of these variances.

You will need to confirm the dimensions on the DB80. We prefer to have aggregate data on several of the same tanks before we consider dimensions confirmed in our system. This allows for variance in manufacturer assembly as well as variance in consumer measuring abilities. We have completed this process already for the DB57,74,and 75, but not the 80. These dimensions should be sent in REPLY to the original Order Confirmation Email you received when you placed your order.

Any news on a larger feed door? We spoke on the phone and you were going to give me a call back. Thanks, John

I got mine in a couple of weeks ago and I'm thoroughly please. Mine fits like a glove. I opted for the feeder door because my lights are currently on the rim. Makes it easy to feed and large enough to get turkey baster in the tank for blowing off rock. If you don't have one, seriously consider it. Top notch work. I'll get some pics of it on my CadLights 70G pretty soon.
Thx to the guys at Artfully Acrylic!

Looks awesome. Wish on our 450 we were able to get a hole cutout for the auto feeder like yours.

Might be worth sending them an email if it would be possibly to send back (pay for shipping both ways) and get the cutout. I don't know if they could, but no harm in asking

Anyone else having trouble contacting them via email?! I have emailed them 3 times and no reply in a week. Seeing if anyone else is also having delays in contact.

So this happened yesterday when I came home from work:

IMG_6885_zpscqfn80uq.jpg

yep my 5 inch large rhomboid fairy wrasse male, which I have had for 4 years, surfed... What happened was it knocked the feed door out of the way and ended up on the tile floor. During the 4 years I have him he hit the traditional window frame mesh cover countless times but was never able to jump out, 2 weeks with the new cover it died. This made me very sad and feel responsible for his death.

That being said, I want to make it clear that I am writing this NOT to bash the product, I mean, I love it, it made the tank look more sophisticated and modern compare to the window frame cover. Its strong and has perfect fitment, which shows how well built it is. I am writing this simply to make fellow members who has the feed door feature aware that a bigger fish can knock the feed door off with a decent power jump. I think most will agree that the feed door can be lift/moved with very little effort.

This is my current quick fix:
IMG_6884_zpsoq7opcxx.jpg

tape to secure the door tightly until I need to feed, just simply lift up the tape on the tank glass and tape it back down after feeding.

This is the second reason why I made this post, to let ArtFully Acrylic and Incredible Corals aware of the issue and maybe improve on the already great product, more like a constructive criticism/review.

My 1st suggestion is maybe attach a lexan hinge to the feed door like the ones on the acclimation boxes will made the feed door stay in place even if a fish jump up and knock on it.

2nd suggestion/idea is to add a thin strip of magnet (like the ones on the frige doors) to lips of the feed door and a small strip of metal to the frame where the feed door lip it touching, like your kitchen cabinet doors, so to make the feed door able to be moved by human hands but not a fish.

3rd suggestion/idea is, which I think is best, to combine the hinge and magnet on the feed door to make it even more secure and easy to operate. Simply remove one lip on the feed door and replace it with the hinge and the other side use the magnet.

Again, I want to make myself clear that I have no intention to bash our vendor and/or their product. For years ppl have requested but no one step up to make a mass produced clean looking mesh cover for our tanks. And I appreciate the fact that Artfully Acrylic came out with such a great design and product which they were also able to accommodate different size and tank designs. I have no idea how these things are designed and built so the above idea/suggestions are just that, ideas, I am sure Artfully can come up with something better.

Keep up the good work guys!

Oh man, sorry for the loss but thanks for sharing. I was worried about this as I am awaiting my cover and ordered it with the feed door. My Lineatus is a whale of a fish at almost 5.5 inches so I'll secure the feed door with tape right off the bat! You came up with some good upgrade solutions and hopefully they'll be considered.
