Correct. However, in the event that you win a second game, you get to pick which item to keep and what you do not keep will go to the runner up of the second game. So, you can keep a prize in your pocket and try to upgrade later.
I have multiple protein skimmers, dosing pumps, and a calcium reactor as prizes in addition to loads of other goodies!
