Anyone heard of calcium affecting tangs? Just started adding liquid reef to my tank and my sailfin died. Could be coincidence, but wanted to see if anyone has heard of it having negative affects on tangs.

75gal
0 nitrate
0 nitrite
0 ammonia
450 calcium
Clarkii clown
Assorted damsels
Engineer gobies (2)
Snowflake eel

Thanks.

Can't say that I've ever heard of that, but maybe if you dosed a lot, a sudden change might have caused it.

I have always had a Sailfin Tang in all of my setups and I haven't ever had or heard of a problem like this.

When I first read the title, I was hoping somebody was asking if tangs needs calcium to grow :)

Sorry you lost your sailfin, that really sucks. Keep an eye on your parameters to make sure noting is out of whack. Hopefully none of your other fish are affected.

in all of my years and keeping tangs, I have never seen a fish effected by Calcium levels. it could have been something in the dosage, but 450 is a good CA level.
