Budget friendly hob protein skimmer

It is not HOB, but in-tank, but the Tunze DC9012 works well. The downside is it has a significant footprint in the tank, the upside is that it cannot leak on the floor. Also, I have a used one for sale!

I am really happy with my Aquamaxx 1,5 HOB, It does a great job for me, It may be undersized for your tank.

I have an Aquamaxx 1.5 HOB also and it does a good job for me. I would recommend it.

I used the reef octo for years..it would leak from time to time.

have you considered an over the tank/HOB ATS? guessing you're looking to control N&P?
might get more bang for your buck goes that way. not sure how big of HOB skimmers there are out there these days bit a 180 needs a good sized skimmer.

I have an Aquamaxx 1.5 HOB also and it does a good job for me. I would recommend it.

I second this.
And aquamaxx is rebranding to Aquaready so all Aquamaxx are about 30% discount now so they can get rid of old stock. My 1,5 is about 4-5 years old and still runs perfectly today.
