I had bad Dino’s when I used all dry rock to set up my 210g a few months ago. I thought I finally had them beat about a month ago. Then I hooked up a beast of a UV sterilizer and immediately realized that they were never totally gone. I noticed a difference after just one night. It was pretty amazing to see.

This is the one I got. Pretty great deal if anyone is looking. I got the 110w model

Just caught up on the last 10 pages. New tank is a lovely size Bubba and you should have it filled in no time.

I am not going to cycle the rock before adding coral. As soon as I get around to hanging my lights I will add a frag. If the frag dies I’ll retry 3 - 4 weeks later. I want to see at what point I can grow corals in a new tank. Most issues I believe come from new reefers who try and follow old ways of running gfo and carbon from day one. I’m not going to use any of that. I’ve learned to just keep it simple and feed the fish and not try and experiment or panic when hair algae shows up. I still see people giving advice to new reefers to run gfo when algae pops up. To me that’s horrible advice and just a part of the tank maturing. When algae grows I’ll add turbo snails and it should be gone in a week or two. By avoiding a lot of the mistakes new reefers make I believe success with come.

See, I went with SPS about 4 days after starting up fresh. I was always told it's not the tank that needs to maure, but that dry rock will suck the alk up far faster than established rock, meaning big swings, and we all know swings kill SPS quicker than any other factor.

I guess if you're checking your levels daily for the first few months and adjusting/dosing as required, you really shouldn't have any problems.

So when you making that new list of what pieces you have? I need to start making an order, lol!
Ill make a list once I see what survives the transfer.

Can we get an update on backdraft?
Sure I’ll try and take a pic tomorrow.

This one doesn't like to grow for me but color has been good lately.

That is looking fantastic.

Does the coralline algae on the stone not interfere with the encrusting of the coral?
Just wondering if you have any observational thought about keeping frag stones clean or let the algae take over in regards with better encrusting.

I'm predicting zero losses.
The frags I added last Wednesday look great still. Color has fully held up so far and polyp extension is good if not better than it was.

I did have a dipping issue yesterday though. I have no idea what went wrong but I dipped roughly 20 frags, in two batches of 10. I am not sure if the water got to cold over the 45 mins to an hour it took me to do it or what happened but the frags came out the dip BROWN and I had one die on me within 5 minutes of putting it in the tank. Normally I dip one or two frags at a time and never did this many so maybe measurements were off but something went wrong. I made sure to stick to the melafix 6 minute rule.

Besides the dip issue I also believe I will not lose any frags.

You have been using Melafix for some time too right?
