Did Fluconazole Kill all of your Bryopsis?

  • Yes

  • No

  • I'm treating my tank with it now.

  • I love Bryopsis and I'm mad that everyone is killing it.

Wonderful observations! We're building info on the medicine, so need as much as we can get!
I will post this in the thread that you've started as well. Hopefully more people will post their observations as well. I think it's important as well to learn as much as possible about this treatment as we go further too.

@NCreefguy do you think your corals look better?

Mine definitely haven't slowed down growing, my alkalinity consumption has increased during this process and everything accross the board looks much happier and more vibrant in color. It's amazing how much an algae like bryopsis can affect the corals. I'm interested to see when I turn AWC back on how much of a growth explosion I am gonna get. Kind of excited

I'm expecting to see healthier corals as the vibrant had stripped the nitrates in my system.

My NO3 never dropped below 2.5ppm during the vibrant treatment (because I maintained them there). But my corals all started to pale anyway. I suspect that it's another elemental deficiency that is also being caused by using vibrant for many months in their 2x weekly dosing scheme. It was hard on my corals. After I started the continuous waterchange everything brightened up and started growing like mad. I dosed my last dose of Vibrant the day before my fluconazole dose went in (I am discontinuing dosing Vibrant). So when I shut off the AWC for this treatment, I was kind of dreading watching the corals gradually get duller, or slow down in growth. That hasn't happened though! I actually think they look happier now! The increase in alkalinity consumption also seems to suggest that.

It's a nice feeling to finally look at your tank and have to really look to find something wrong :D

Not yet. My corals are still trying to recover from all the brown slime and red cyano that they been covered with for the past two months. That's another reason I'm eager to get some WCs going again and try to get rid of this mess.

Hang on I'll send you some pics of my tank so you won't have to strain yourself trying to find something wrong. :D I've got some nice brown stringy things with bubbles on the end...rust looking rocks and sand....and some nice red/lavender blankets covering what ever is left.

Just finished reading this entire thread and have decided to go ahead and place an order myself. I do not have a bad outbreak like others have posted but I have noticed it growing in a few spots and was going to pull out the frags and treat with hydrogen peroxide but after reading this I change my mind. I have only seen one other person post a picture with an anemone in their tank but have not seen any posts after that initial one, with that said has anyone tried this with an anemone in their tank? I have a prized blue anemone that I don't want to stress or cause any harm to.

I've fighting a bout of green hair algae for a couple months now. My nitrates are at 0 and phosphate is at .08. Both checked with Red Sea test kits. I started using Vibrant as well as added a GFO reactor about 2 month ago. So far, nothing has worked in getting it under control. Where can I order the fluconazole? At this point, I'm willing to try anything.

As far as I know flucon ONLY effects Bryopsis and has no effect on any other algae including GHA

I have 3 Rock Flower Anemones in my nano tank. I am 24 hours into treatment. The RFA's and everything else all look great.

Have you tried removing any of the gha? I've been treating my gha in my 45 gallon with Vibrant and I am finding that the gha comes off much easier now with the Vibrant treatment.

No I haven't touched anything while running this treatment. I wanted to see what the meds were going to do by itself. During my WC in a couple of days,I'll try to remove it and see if it releases easily or not.
