Breeding behaviour but not breeding?

Has anyone else come across clowns doing everything but spawning?

my true percs are around 4 years old now, they clean off areas of rock even pulling coralline off but the female has never actually starting laying eggs?

Does anyone have any suggestions to get them to actually do the deed?

Mine lay eggs up the glass so they're obviously not fussy but I do wonder if they'd be happier with a more nest like area. You say they clear the rocks but have you tried adding a flower pot or similar?

I haven’t yet as they’re currently in a holding aquarium while I upgrade but I may try a flowerpot if they continue to not lay as I am worried my female will become egg bound

They usually do this for a while leading up to them spawning. You can increase the temperature(I did this about a month ago to 78-79f and my clowns started spawning last week)in the tank and feed heavier. The rise in temp simulates the season change to summer, which is when they spawn.
