I'll stick to the best starter corals are the cheap corals. It's just the learning curve and sometimes tanks just aren't ready or some kinda Voo Doo.

Orange ricordia Yuma are nice little pops of color. Dragon eye zoas too as well as water melons. I mentioned the blasomussa merletti. Green toadstools have a lot of nice movement if the flow is right. Metallic clove polyps, another nice weed coral.

Reds are always expensive o_O, but I like the $5 bin at the lfs cuz corals do grow after all.

You may be able to do some cypasteria too. An encrusting coral. Lotta pop to them and like lower light as well.
Several encrusting montis are the same.

If "my friend" got a 24" tank it might be a little too tall. She is like 5'6". I have a freshwater this height and it's a little awkward barefoot.

Got it. If the stand is low that's helps of course. And some of the online common aquarium tank sizes might be with looking at. But there's so many they are not always the most accurate.
There's also semi cubes too.
IMO don't get hung up on gallons, kinda look more at dimensions.

I dunno. A lot of folks obsess on thier tanks and the maint is actually more the focus. IMO if you start it right and don't need plan on any coral competitions or super high dollar stuff it's not that bad. Mine is really one a week and WC every other. As much as I talk tank here I don't really mess with mine much.

The other consideration is going to to be qt and if you want to get into bigger and harder fish.

I'm very selective about fish. My son would kill for a green Mandarin. Not willing to think about it unless we find one that eats frozen. I do like corals. I am not willing to pay huge prices for them. Luckily, most I like are low end.

Mandy's get trained.theyre like cats really. They also train you. You want an older tank full of bugs first too.

There's a lot of ways to go with a tank really. Fish focused coral focused etc. that's where starter tanks are important. Helps find your interests and look at costs.
We haven't even talked about real live rock from Florida if you like hitchikers and such.

My little blue coral moved off his rock today. He actually moved into the cave with Booger. I'm ok wherever he wants to be. I just hope the two are ok being close. They aren't touching. Should I discourage this?
