Salt water or fresh
Fresh, black water... slightly acidic, soft, tannin stained, full of fish poop. They had been growing really slowly, but then I switched from tap water to tank water, and put them on top of the fluorescent hood on my freshwater tank... was like a double whammy. They've been growing well the last two weeks or so.

Water from the fw tank is referred to as “the secret sauce” at my house...it grows plants like weeds! Even an orchid my aunt gave us, and they are supposed to be hard to grow. Especially if it’s from a water change, the fish poop is the best possible fertilizer!

Yes, a barnacle blenny. He was really cool but he liked staying under the large squamosa and one day the clam moved and it didn't end well for him.
Andrew really wants a purple tang. It would be in the 93 cube. I have been reading they ignore all other fish except tangs? They live singularly, and from all videos I've seen don't really swim around the tank like a Tang racetrack. What were your observations?

We raised ours from a very small juvenile. Very timid until maturity. Once around say 4-5" he was the boss. Any fish that resembled him like a copperband butterfly, etc, of the same size he would really harass to the point of having to remove said fish. Typically if it was a small juvenile, the tang wouldn't bother. Honestly, we would never have another tank without a purple tang, I highly recommend one but try to find a small one. You know we never quarintine and the purple tang was very robust. He developed crypto once but fed a very high quality diet it never showed up again in over 8 years plus that guy survived quite few moves. I vote get one!

I found a source for a baby. 1"+. We don't QT either. One day we may regret that. I honestly never much cared for any tang until Najer's scopas. It was (still is) love at first sight. The scopas by all accounts is a Blenny killer. I don't expect to ever have enough macro in the DT to accomplish a peaceful coexistence like he has.

Coral beauty's can be a terror too. We've kept a couple in different tanks. One thing about fish is you can't tell how they are going to act in your tank by others experiences. My friend bought a baby purple from the same batch we did and his was so shy he always hid, even at 6". Our purple was very photogenic, lol. Most likely though, he will be the tank boss.

Always liked this Angel, but not sure what they are compatible with.
