That goni is perdy
Thanks! When I turn the flow off it’s almost touching the hammer. I really underestimated how much both of those would grow, there’s almost 12” between their bases and I’ve already moved the hammer twice!

I’ve kind of debated making my new 25g frag tank bare bottom to avoid some of this stuff. I do enjoy having a lot of biodiversity in the 10g but it requires a constant cleaning. I keep nutrients kind of low (well can’t raise them higher than that really) and still have lots of cyano and turf algae.

I remember never experiencing any algae in my bare fish qt tanks.

Does anyone have an opinion on this?

The only consideration I have is I also qt inverts in this tank so they’d probably appreciate the sand. I should get some more inverts to they clean this thing.

I’m starting to suspect my ph is the reason why cyano has been able to thrive despite low nutrients in the 10g, that with food particulates I suspect. Should finally commit and get a skrimp in there.

Billy pipes is also the one who told me to hydrogen peroxide algae infested plugs but not to do it to cloves.

He does have a clean tank though.

I have started to lie to people and just tell them I’m going for a nutrient rich “lagoon” with my 10g frag tank hence all of the algae and cyano.

Trying to replicate the environment as closely as possible you know.

I think I’m doing a really good job.

That’s what my tank looked like early on! Didn’t do anything different except start leaving a bag of Phosguard in the media chamber, and adding biomedia. All that crud went away after a few months and now I just have to clean my glass every few days.

I do have a healthy cuc popularion though. Various snails, a cleaner shrimp, lawnmower blenny and tuxedo urchin really keep things under control and let me feed a lot.

I think the goni in my frag tank now is the fastest growing coral in there. The only other coral I’ve owned that compares to the growth are cloves so far.

The goni when I first got him a month ago:

The goni this morning, he’s got loads of new heads:

Then I’ll re-use the sand and rock for the new tank. I’m sure things will even out soon. The tank has been running 4-5 months so it shouldn’t be longer than another 4 months or so that things are alright.

Can you do us a closer pic of the sponge please, sometimes even changing their position a few degrees can help, they look fine in the pic?! :)
It looked fine last week ... i didnt dose phyto for like 3 days and now it looks like I dropped the vodka bottle in the tank
