So six years ago I purchased a used Vortech mp40. It’s worked like a charm over the years. I guess that’s why they’re the best. It finally gave up the ghost a couple of weeks ago. Today I picked up my brand new, in the box, beautiful MP40 quiet drive…..what could go wrong? I sort of missed seeing my eco-gorgs moving in the currents. Now glad to get one back in. But just a couple of hours ago Van Gogh, my Blue Hippo Tang decided he didn’t like it and started to not only bump up against it but with his tail splashed water from the surface out of the fish tank about a foot or so from new pump? I’m guessing it’s a territorial thing? While writing this post, he’s done it 3 or 4 times.

1. Anyone have any similar experiences or insight into the mind of a 10 year old fish?

Hippos are weirdos. I had a Hippo who took a convict tang and just started shaking the hell out of it. It also ate 3 feather dusters

Is the new one on a different setting than what the old one was ? Your blue hippo mite not like a difference in fluctuations of water flow . Just a thought .

Havnt changed anything but my 6 year old blue does the tail slap thing, seems to coincide with post feeding.
Cruises the top like a shark, then slaps the surface sending water everywhere, but only after everything eaten.

I think our fish must be related! Great picture by the way. Congrats.

Tangs. Can't live without them, can't live with them f**king with something on a daily basis... :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:

At least they don't "grunt" like my emperor angelfish (sounds like a pump stalling).
A grunting Angel. My wife would insist on selling it! Hilarious.

My wife was the one who pointed it out to me (I always thought it was one of the pumps or powerheads). When I work at the computer you can hear him launch into these "grunting" spasms whenever he's chasing another fish away from food.

I didn't realize these fish were that freakin loud... louder than any of the equipment that operate).

Haha I haven't heard of angel fish grunting. I'm going to have to keep an ear on the angels in my tank now.

Just visited your Tank Thread, impressive! Did you create the Abyss fish chart yourself? Thought of doing something similar but smaller to allow friends and family a way to read a little background on my tanks inhabitance. Seriously nice though.

I did. It's just a Photoshop file so if you have Photoshop drop me a line and I'll send you the .psd file.

Thanks, no photoshop here. But I appreciate the inspiration. I’ll see what I can pull off. Again nice job.
