Cutouts are 3.75” on mine and socks slide right in and fit snug in holes.

Can you measure the sock chamber. The gap between the panels? They tell me the socks are correct and sent a video and mine don’t go in easily like the video. I’m wondering if my panels are slightly too close

I can force 2 in. But not flush. Third I can’t get in at all

Ok two updates!

1) seller tells me that the socks fit and I need to flex the black piece to get them to snap it. It’s snug to be water tight. Sure enough. It worked! But now I can’t get the black piece in the sump. Seer is sending me a video. Anyone else experience this?

2) their “large buyer” fell through. They have 18 left and are enabling the 10% off sale until April 1! No coupon needed! And works for the plumbing kit also!

No plumbing kit 1259 shipped!

They fit but you have to push them in pretty hard and it almost "clicks" in. I cut the ever loving Hades out of my hand the first time I put them in. You kinda have to tilt spin wiggle them in.

@JNalley

My lid guy for back with a quote for this tank:

It would be roughly $100 and would have to be in two sections. Two sections will also make it sturdier and will not bow.

Sooo still two independent lids, which could make it easier to work with. And price can’t be beat. For 100$ I could live with it
Post his info or pm it. I'd be interested in a lid. I bought a screen kit but if he can do them for that price I'd be happy to send him some money.

Also, I've got the worst case of green "powder" growing on my glass I've ever seen. My daughter called me at work yesterday to tell me it looked like the tank from finding Nemo. It's only on the glass none on the sand. I used my rock from my previous tank so figured the cycle would be quick. Hopefully my turf scrubber gets growing soon.

I also would like to avoid C if possible. I will have a skimmer, turf scrubber, bio media, possibly rock. It’s just getting too crazy in c

A fits perfect. I like this but my concern was too much flow, but the one comment in the poll thread makes me think high flow might be better. What’s your flow concern ?

B also works but can get close to the sock if you don’t mount it back towards the pane

I can’t reach my hand into A if it’s on the bottom. New idea. It could always be vertical in A
Which turf scrubber are you going with? The one I got from eBay fits perfectly on the sock chamber.

Do you still use the socks ? I wa a planning on buying another surf2 which I currently use and have been happy with, but I’m open minded to the one you have and it frees up in the middle area

The sock thing is kinda bothering me, they told me if I’m concerned about the socks rim putting pressure on the glass, I can cut out notches. They assure me it’s safe as is, and they’ve run and tested this setup for 2+ years. Yea. Well. As an engineer, why take the risk. This sock section is built to too tight if tklerances and should have been .25-.50” wider

Tbh I’ve never been a fan of socks. I view them as use “if/when” needed. So if I don’t use them it’s media cups, your model scrubber, filled with rock, or wasted space.

I can force 2 in. But not flush. Third I can’t get in at all

Measures:

Sock chamber including baffle: 5 inches

Sock chamber from baffle to wall (b/w B and C): 4 inches

Sock filter cutout: 3 15/16 inches

I think I see where the issue is. The ‘lip’ of the filter socks have a diameter of 4 1/16 to 4 1/8 inches, so they are ever so slightly larger than the chamber. If you push them down and then twist slightly, they kind of snuggle in. However, they are likely to pop up. I’m thinking once weighted down with water and flow, they will stick flush.

I am worried about getting filter cups to fit now, as I’m not sure they will have the same give as the sock rims do.

If the filter cup is 3.75” diameter itshould work. As long as overall size is 4 or less. If it’s slightly bigger you could always shave it down with sandpaper or diagonal cutters. Hacksaw.

But yes they are insisting it’s like this by design to be water tight. But doesn’t need to be this tight to be water tight.

That compartment could have been 4.25” and avoided the lip issue. And the cutout could have been slightly larger like 1/32” so the socks slide in easier. I might sand mine with a dremel If I decide to use it

Here’s some pictures they send me including their hack suggestion

I think this would solve my issue. I will get the cups and shave down the lip if needed.

Agreed.

That hack is silly. Lol. All they needed, as you state, is a marginally larger chamber. Oh well.

On my system, it seems less an issue of the circular cutouts, since when I pull the panel from the chamber, the socks fit perfectly fine. They only get wonky when put back in the chamber because the chamber is just 1/8 to 1/16 small. Ugh.

1/16 or 1/8 smaller fuge would be unnoticed. However this section being 1/16 or 1/8 too short causes a noticeable annoyance. But yea it’s fixable if we make some small modifications

I got a buddy that can make anything custom if you want. He’s doing custom feed cups and frag shelves for me now.

I’ll probably have him make the media cups. Whatever specs and measurements I give, color combos, he will make the design come to life

He made my custom magnet grow out shelves that allow any plug to encrust onto a 2x3 tile. I use these all the time. Took my invention from concept to physical product and I love them

Sweet. I will likely take you up on this. Would like to explore the custom lid maker you have as well.

Was thinking these, but custom might be better given these fit issues:
