I’m late to the discussion.

You don’t need uv it’s not necessarily but it’s good to have anyway.
I got it for a bacterial bloom and it clears up my water amazingly! It wasn’t working for a bit and I noticed a few corals died and my gem tang got fin rot. Once I got it going again, things started to get better. I have it on for 22 hours every other night

I'm going to cheat and skip down past all of the equipment that I feel is critical for life support. In my system, heaters, pumps, testing equipment and lights are all mission critical IMO, but I don't think that is what the OP was after.

Things that are optional:

Skimmer
Reef Mat
RODI/Water mixing station
A towel rack and towel inside my sump cabinet
Adjustable micropipettes

ATO (critical imo for stability unless your robotic about keeping up)
Milwaukee digital refractometer (just got this; omg why did I wait so long; game changer)
Apex (just runnin a Jr but it presents the data in a great way that beats my hand written log book anyday)
Swing arm light that clamps onto my table that I do my testing at (makes seeing things so much easier; can put it right on top of what I'm looking at)
Pipettes! (all sizes; I never have enough!)

Besides the tank...what are the TOP 5 pieces of equipment you utilize for your reef tank?

The first few pieces of equipment are easy but I think some of your answers after those will vary! Interested to see what your TOP 5 list looks like!

in order of importance, to me at least, lights, heater, skimmer, power heads, filter.

It’s probably been mentioned… but, you might want to start with a good hydrometer/salinity measuring device. Can’t start without it and you’ll use it literally hundreds of times.

Yall might think I'm joking, but this Acrylic Coral Pointer gets used more than anything anytime. Sure...heaters,,wavemakers, pumps etc fill in the blank....but my goodness for under $5.00 I use it more than any other piece of equipment!! Moving corals, flipping over dumb snails,,fighting off evil clown fish when doing tank maintenance, flipping over my Conch snail, cleaning the sand bed, you name it...its undefeated!!

In addition to what most said above...

Tube brush.
Different length Acrylic Rod to prode though stuff.
Mag scraper so you don't need to get prune hands all the time cleaning the glass.
Good gloves which goes up to the bicepts.
Feeder rings, so you food doesn't go into your overflow and waste it all.
RO/DI.
