Be my Valentine: Do you have someone special that you reef with?

Reefing can be a solitary venture, or it can be a community process (or maybe both). As we are thinking about the special people in our lives during the week of Valentine’s Day, do you have someone that you reef with? Maybe you share the whole reefing experience, they are there to provide encouragement, maybe it seems more like toleration, or maybe you reef alone – let’s talk about your approach to reefing, a reefing partner that you may have, and the benefits of a community in reefing!

My wife likes the sausage but hates to see how it’s made (or the cost). Being married is like working in IT. “I want this thing and I want it tomorrow and I don’t care about the cost and by don’t care I mean it shouldn’t cost anything.”

Wife: “I’d like a dragon soul special edition Tasmanian torch.”

Me: “Ok that’s a $1,500 coral and will require lighting, dosing, powerheads, etc.”

Wife: “Ok I want it but don’t spend any money.”

All joking aside she’s an active member of our local reefing community and goes to frag swaps with me. She supports me by letting purchases slide and not divorcing me for a myriad of very valid reasons that extend beyond fish keeping.

@LeeLoo Lola is my partner in crime. She's the active one on the forum! (I used to be quite active on a different forum back in the day) She finds all sorts of neat ways to spend $$ on the tanks but it's something we've been doing together for more than 20 years. We both made the decision to upgrade to the IM EXT170 which will be a reality in 12-20 weeks ;)

My vote is on the line between appreciated and tolerated. New interesting fish/invert under 50 bucks? Appreciated. Weird coral or unseen cleaning inverts? Tolerated. At the end of the day it's my obsession, and as long as my partner is supportive that's what matters to me
