Does anyone else have a BC Super Rainbow? If so, what's it supposed to look like at its prime?

Ive been cooking this thing for about 20 months, but can't seem to get this guy to color up! :loudly-crying-face::loudly-crying-face:

I have the same problem with a pink highlighter. Most rainbow Tenuis don’t look good under 10k light.

Nitrates: No idea :confounded-face:. Haven't tested for almost 4 years.
Phosphates: 0.16ppm
Current Lighting: Phillips CoralCare as of a week ago. Previously Reefis for the past 12 months, and Radions for the 8 months prior. I try to run fairly white light settings. But regardless of lighting, it sits at a peak PAR of ~370. The coral hasn't changed much in terms of coloration across the different lights; here's how it looked around the time I first got it.

But this was a part of the white-light pack Adam built for me :loudly-crying-face:!

Wonder if my hopes it under 12-14k lighting are too high. But then again, WD and SCOP look fantastic even under super white light (photos taken under same spectrum as the BC Super Rainbow)

hi there,

thanks for the post. looks good though, a little faint color wise but, yeah a lot of these blue light corals just look so-so under whites. That is for sure. I most definitely whiffled if I even considered that a good addition to a daylights pack though really sorry. do you have a ramp up or down period that is heavier blue?

No problem Adam! I posted to see if it colors up more under whites, and if anyone else had pics of theirs. The first and last hour of my photo period are blues.

Maybe the BC super rainbow becomes dominantly one color if the par is too high for it's preference.
For example, my pc rainbow is predominantly red under higher par, but when I find a lower par spot, it starts to show off oranges, and greens.

this is a tremendously good insight! Maybe move it to a little bit less lit area if possible and see if anything perks up.

I have a couple frags cut off of it that I can scatter around different light intensities.

Surprised at these responses. That piece needs to be most to shade asap and par lowered. Buy a Salifert nitrate kit and make sure it’s not 0. I would put that piece around 200 par till it gets better.

Any particular reason you feel that way?

Looks okay under blues. Doesn’t look bleached at all. I can try to snap an actinic shot of it; i just prefer taking photos at 12-14k spectrums.

EDIT: Here are the photos under Actinic and 18k.

Can you share your experience on this piece to state why you are surprised at the responses?

Not the same piece, but sharing my laser melon as I'm in the same boat and following to see if anyone has anything else to add. I've started seeing great growth over the last few months, and it was pretty stagnant for about a year, but still hasn't shown much color. Doesn't really look much different under AB+ other than the windex effect.

I see a healthy, growing specimen and that’s the most important part!

My super rainbow was also stagnant for almost a year before it finally based out. New branching has only been within past few months.

Your laser melon looks happy! I think new growth is a great sign too.
