Agreed. The initial location of my tank was going to be about 18' from the basement sump. New plan is a straight shot through the floor to the sump so with fittings about 12' head. The thought was to switch from the two AC Iwaki pumps to two DC versions RDs. Given I have two pumps
I could:
  • Wait for a replacement
  • Keep a spare non-RD pump on the shelf
  • Repurpose one of the other systems pumps
  • Just go with Iwaki and forget about problems

Finally got the RMS rail light for the Haddoni Lagoon tank. I think that it’s a cleaner look vs before. Perhaps 3 x XR30s for a 5’ anemone tank might be an overkill so went down to 2? The new 3D print shades (in black) will be done tonight.

Before & after shots

Took the hideous swinging panels off the whiteboard — is this better? I can write reminders or put some magnetic cool stuff (thinking beer opener thingies, refrigerator magnets) or some R2R stickers? *hint* *hint*

Definitely need an iPad - so that would be cool & useful! :)

How is the humidity in the room? Do you need to run a dehumidifier?

Red Dragon update — Royal Exclusive responded to the email and said to check the calcium deposit. It was not apparent that I’ve swapped pumps and the problem persisted — the controller is bad. Looks like this will be a long haul working through this. I’m tempted to buy a Jebao for the 1/5 the cost and likely more reliable!

More Flow? Currently have 4 gyres and 2 MP60s - seems like some SPS colonies are not getting enough flow due to my 3 huge islands.

Should I add 2 MP40s in the back wall (very clean look) or add 2 Sea Sweeps + Jebao? I suspect the latter option (while a little bulky) gives better flow throughout the tank.

What do you guys think?

Red Dragon update - Royal Exclusiv finally got back to me. They will send a replacement all the way from Germany! Will let you guys know how things go — customer service was excellent though, considering geographical & time zone differences.

Managing ich - looks like it's going to be long haul. So far, the following fish are showing signs of ich: 3 Blue Tangs, 2 Foxfaces, Pyramid Butterfly and an Emperator! :( They are all eating & active, except the Emperator -- he still eats but occasionally settled on the bottom, hiding, not normal for a big bully.

I would catch and QT them with copper but catching them is near impossible. I've ordered Poly Lab Medic but very low success rate. How about Hydrogen Peroxide? I can also lower salinity but other than that, not a lot of options, unfortunately. Well -- the last option is to move ALL fish to the 175g and treat with copper... this will be very stressful for the fish and their caretaker!@#$

Any other ideas?

Now the very PAINFUL part to dismantle the 450g and move all fish to the 175g for quarantine and copper treatment! It’s spreading and some big fish lost appetite and hiding.

So disappointing

OR should I just take out the corals and dose copper to treat the whole 450g tank? Knowing that it will be a year+ to be able to keep corals again with copper infused into rocks?

Thoughts???

#fishmedic any insights?

It’s far easier to move corals (I only have a few frags and colonies) than to catch 30+ fish. If I treat the whole tank, when can I keep corals again? I can run Cuprisorb & carbon for months.

Doable? Should I treat the whole tank or take fish out?

Have you verified that it's ich? If so removing coral and running hyposalinity might be a better option for you. However this means removing all coral and clean up crew, same as if using copper.
