I just lost my display tank to a seam.

My back up in the garage 210 gallon has chipped edge.

Im on fence of buying new system , but I want to use the 210 gallon since it’s been in my garage.

Please advise what you guys think. Is it something to be concerned about?

The stand is decent but I’m thinking of adding reinforcement 2x4 under each corner.

please see attached pics

I hear ya on the trying to salvage what you got thing... In the long run man that thing is going to wear down and those cracks will leak. Save yourself the headache and buy one, check FB marketplace for something cheap but good if on a budget.

That stand makes me more nervous than the tank. Having gone through 1 tank leak, hate to see you go through another. And this one is bigger. Spend the money and do it right. Or hold off, save up and then buy a new or local used one in good shape. You’ll sleep better.

Each little chip is a weak point for a crack to propagate in. I would not risk it. That’s a lot of water if it lets go on you.

At the end of the day, the level of risk you want to take has to be decided by you. I personally would try to locate another tank to save myself the stress of worrying about it all the time.

I have that exact same stand, the stand will hold, so dont worry about that. The chips are fine for now. I wouldnt use it for years, but itl keep your stuff alive and accomplish what you need it to. Definitely get the process moving to find them a newer more permanent home!

Peace of mind is everything, if some 2x4 would help you out then go for it of course.

It’s a temporary hold while I get a new tank from my tank seam bushing
It may work for a temporary tank, but I would not trust it long-term. I agree with @F i s h y above.
A lot of the chips look like clamshell chips, which are low-risk, but it is too hard to assess completely from pictures only and with the large number of chips present, there is likelihood that some are fractures that can propagate through the glass and ruin the tank.

That is the better option in place of the chipped tank.
Sorry, I cannot offer advice on brands. I've only ever had basic Aqueon or Marineland aquariums.
