I just moved everything in my 20 gallon to my new 40 gallon tank. At the time I just threw everything in there since I had living animals that needed to get into the new tank as fast as possible. So, now I'm just trying to figure out how to aquascape to look nice and how a real reef would look. I was just wondering if maybe some of y'all had any ideas.

Hers a pic of my tank

I would definitely get more rock. If you do you could try to get some like flat shelf type rocks so you can put corals on them. Also IMO if you can, find some base rocks with flat bottoms so it keeps everything else you put on top stable. It's tough to help someone on there Aquascape because everyone has different visions for how they want it to look. You just have to put the rocks in a way you might like and rearrange a few times until you feel satisfied with the way it turned out. Good luck!

I would also add more rock. But I like yor basic idea. You are using asymmetry and negative space pretty well. Aquascapes have competing demands. You need enough rock to serve as a filter. You need hiding spots and cover for your fish. You need places to put your corals. You need it open, so you get good flow. And it has to be artistic.

+1 on the more rock idea. With a larger tank you're going to want to get more fish and will probably need more hiding places.

I actually disagree with the more rock. I think you have some nice pieces there, and love how much space you have between them. More space for corals to grow! Unique, and not just a wall or pile of rocks.

Yeah I like the space and how clean it is, but want more hiding places for when I get fish so they can feel safe and happy.

Got a new rock today and redid my rock lay out. I plan on getting just a couple more pieces of rock depending on size. So far I like it. I was almost thinking of putting the piece that's in the middle that's tall and laying it to connect the two islands then put some rock behind that. Not sure yet I'll prob play with it once I get more rock.
