husband is pretty good considering the cost of this hobby.

He does like to call me “the fish killer” for legit any reason, a fish could be dead in a box that was shipped on my doorstep and he would call em “the fish killer”
I get that one a lot too. “You’re just going to kill them anyways” is another phrase she loves

Having an argue about everything spose sounds terrible..lol.

It is. You never know what will set her off. There is no discussion. It is all screamed at the top of the lungs with an endless stream of curses added in. You are always at fault. You are always blamed, accused, and belittled. There is no right answer, there is only escape. Pray to God you get away before she gets pregnant!!

My wife loves the result but kind of makes some noise about the time I spend on it HOWEVER she rather me home then out so you know ying yang. She also got me into fish tanking a few years back by getting me a free starter tank from her moms friend. allllll down hill from there lol

We are provided for and the tank is pretty. I always let her get anything she wants for it so she feels included.

Regarding any hobby, just memorize and use this magical phrase:

---> "It keeps me off the STREETS and it keeps me off of DRUGS <---

You will be amazed how quickly the wife's objections will fade.
I’m convinced drugs would be much cheaper!

Just tell your wife,

"You know? You're right. I'm going to quit this hobby and sell everything. It will give me more time to join two softball leagues and go out drinking with my softball buddies 3 or 4 nights a week. In fact, the one league is a co-ed league with 30-something year old single women...."

Wow.. I can't believe this thread.. It breaks my heart.

A couple should recognize what brings one another joy and happiness and support those things. Does that mean go crazy? No, but it shouldn't mean that you can't enjoy what you love. Even if the other doesn't feel the same feelings towards the other's passions. Compromise may always be there too, but I could never imagine being with someone giving me grief about spending my own money or time on something I love. If that were the case I'd 100% know I'm not with the right person.

My fiancé respects my hobbies and I respect hers, we compromise on a few things here and there. She wants a house filled to the brim with books, I want a house filled to the brim with fish tanks. Instead, we discuss tank size, location, and number of tanks together and reach a mid ground where we both are happy. I finish remodeling one area of the house, I get to put up this tank, or get this fish. She wants a library, so I'm building her a library with a nice sitting area and a few book shelves so that she can enjoy her hobby. I go to the fish store, we also stop at the book store, Ect.

Aside from all that, she does also get enjoyment out of my reef tank and even helps me often when it comes to fragging or adding new fish/corals. But even if she didn't want anything to do with the tank, she would still support me and my hobbies.

Sorry man. That must be hard to deal with.
My wife does not fully understand it, but she appreciates it.
She enjoys staring into the tank. And often pokes me to come look…
I buy what I want when I want it. I couldn’t imagine it any other way. I am an adult after all.
Happily married 16 years. 2 teenage kids.

If things were different and we had money constraints, where it was either pay bills put food on table or the aquarium.
The aquarium would not exist any longer.
And that would be my decision.

Was she bipolar or have other mental health issues?

I tried a relationship like that, alcoholic coke mainliner....I had to have her removed from the house.

She did like the fish tank though and talked me into the pair of clowns that I still have 15 years later.

My wife is the one who got me into dogs...

I guess I can’t complain too much. She did allow me to get the tank to begin with.. though it did take a bit of convincing. If she would have let me get it when I first found it I could have got the 125 free when I bought a 75 bowfront (for $30). Instead I got the 125 for $50. Cant beat that kind of deal.

btw I dont have the 75 anymore so I could start the 125 so it’s not like the house has tank after tank

@Mrs.F i s h y gives me a hard time all the time. She's always telling me we need more tanks more fish more coral more nems she has requests in for seahorses and jellies.

I am a very lucky man. She not only understands our hobby but has gone from knowing nothing to a lot in a very short time. She runs RO water when I'm at work, she mixes salt water for water changes she feeds the fish she picks out new wet pets.... she is amazing...

My wife enjoys the fish takes care of the tank feeds when I'm out of town and gets sad if one dies. But sometimes tells me I spend too much time with my aquarium and should spend more time with her. I then remind her she the one who made me build a separate building from the house for my tank.
