Anybody else’s spouse give them a hard time about the hobby? Let’s hear your story

Just curious if anyone else’s spouse gives them such a hard time about what we love. It doesn’t matter if I were to get something for free there is an argument about it. Current battle is where I can put my 125 gallon soon to be build. “It doesn’t go with her decorations so I have to keep it in the garage”

Let’s hear your stories and maybe how to make a compromise.

I had one of those "argue about everything" spouses... I was fortunate to get rid of it before I started my reefs. NOBODY will ever have that level of power with me again. Get on-board or get GONE!!

Whenever she sees a box with the words PERISHABLE or LIVE FISH as a delivery, my spidey sense will tingle.

I notice the scowl forming on her face and the impending rant about to emerge from her mouth. ;Greedy

Sweating profusely, I rip open the box as fast as possible and take out the pink centered zoanthid.

Instantly, she will take the bag and stare at it with a glazed look..."oooh the pink is so purrdyyy!"

My wife is the one who got me into the hobby. She's been doing it for six years, I just joined her a few months back. I lucked out.

I mean..it's not like it's a negative hobby. Plenty of things I could think of to get in trouble besides a tank..lol. If my wife was as needy as my aquarium..we would have problems.

She tells me all the time that I am addicted. I say there are far worse things in this world that I could be addicted too. And my wife is that needy lol

Got busted a couple years ago running 125 down the freeway... When I finally pulled over the officer was pretty ticked. "Give me one good reason I don't take you to jail right now!!" My reply: "Sir, I heard my ex-wife was dating a police officer, I was afraid you were trying to make me take her back" After he finished wiping the tears of laughter away, he let me go....

It is addictive. I'm sure she has things she does your not into. If she's cool, just tell her you enjoy the hobby and it makes you happy to learn about it. Balance out what she wants to do with what you want to do.

Negative. I support my wife's hobbies and she supports mine. Happiness is the goal..

It is addictive. I'm sure she has things she does your not into. If she's cool, just tell her you enjoy the hobby and it makes you happy to learn about it. Balance out what she wants to do with what you want to do.

Regarding any hobby, just memorize and use this magical phrase:

---> "It keeps me off the STREETS and it keeps me off of DRUGS <---

You will be amazed how quickly the wife's objections will fade.

Been together for 20 years..don't see it changing now. At the same time I'm not the type of person to "be scalded" in a relationship...respect you, respect me type of thing. Having an argue about everything spose sounds terrible..lol.

If the issue is how much the hobby costs, just utilize magical phrase #2:

It should be enough to explain that you enjoy it..try to get her into it. If she's not into fine...just gives you an excuse when she tries to get you into something you're nit interested in..haha

husband is pretty good considering the cost of this hobby.

He does like to call me “the fish killer” for legit any reason, a fish could be dead in a box that was shipped on my doorstep and he would call me “the fish killer”

The best thing I ever did was when I started a business we separated finances. As long as our needs are met who am I to tell my wife who works too how to spend her money? It goes both ways. Arguing over money and spending habits can end a marriage faster than cheating..lol Although she spends more money on coral than I do. We're a team when it comes to wrecking a checking account.
