Got around to getting some painting on the HDF. Used some spackle to fill in the grain on the sides, then a bit of sanding/roughing the top surface, and then a coat of primer the the coat of flex seal for the surface. Turned out pretty good and I've done this a few times to waterproof the interior of stands in the sump area.

The entire stand will be 80/20 when it's done. The wood stand is just shy of being a mess. Which is what started this odyssey... Also a mini tank crash that was self inflicted.
i’m excited for the 80/20 build log. i need ideas for my stand build lol

Let me know if you need help. The 8020 is super easy to work with.
You can do doors too.
I used 3m fasteners so I can pop the panels off when needed for full access.

It's been taking up space since December, lol. Had some family issues so it's been back burner for a bit.

Ex MIL (I'm still good with) does front office for a custom cabinet maker. She's going to do my panels this week. Going to use recessed magnets to hold on the doors.

How many trips your making to Lowe's the gf says (she's here to watch me not f&$k up, lol).

I say none, she says two or three... she wins with two trips.

Dam Bosch drill bit the dust after like 15 years or so. I doubt this one will last as long, lol.

Next step:

Internal overflow is gone. Need to yank the bulkheads then take it out to rinse the tank & drill  for the external overflow & return.

You will be so much happier with that gone, Flow will be a lot easier, plus the scape will be less awkward.

Agreed, I found a replacement 50g cube with a external overflow and a few extras@ a good price and I Would of bought it if my 1st attempt at drilling failed miserably, but it worked out.

FYI for anyone, SCA tanks are NOT tempered, via Steve that handles sales for them. This is a fairly old tank (2012 ish), so I didn't mind the Risk v. Reward.

Holes are drilled, silicone is doing it's thing with the glass piece over the old bulkheads.

Figure I'll partial test water on Tuesday and if it goes good, water Thursday and livestock goes back Friday.

Nice and clean! Since I do not drill holes everyday, my first is always... I could do better. I mean it will seal fine, but the break out is a bit sloppy for my liking. I just did a EXT on a 25 lagoon AIO that I ripped out and replaced the rear glass. I am going to do a build series on it, it is just a bit stalled at present. Did you find a sump that is going to work?

This was a first for me, never drilled before. I've cut my share of tile over the years with a diamond hole saw so I'm not totally green to it. Just the OMG part with the tank glass. On the sump, I'm more than likely gonna just stick with the trigger sump, it's a pita dimension wise, but it all fits.

The temp house for the 50g livestock was going to be the new sump, it's a 16g cube.

In my build series, I was concerned about fitting everything inside the cabinet. but in reality it wasn’t going to happen. so having an adjoining cabinet for other things was very liberating. I love having reefs in a concentrated cube, but you do not have the unlimited space that you have in bigger tanks. Quality over quantity I guess.
