MANY years ago (15 - 20 or so) I had grand ideas for a huge (1200 litres) marine aquarium which I managed to run fairly successfully until I realised how much it was costing and it had to go. I've recently purchased myself a DD Aqua Reef 900 tank, cabinet and sump along with all the trimmings to get a new marine aquarium up and running.

To the point, I used to have a really nice anemone that hosted a pair of breeding clowns which my wife and I loved and would like to have it identified so we know what to look for so we can get another.

I'm 99% sure this is Heteractis Magnifica as it used to fan open to about 15" across, had a lovely red foot and the tendrils were about 2.5 - 3 inches long. I know it could be a Crispa or Malu, but I think it was too big to be either. Happy to be wrong though...

Thanks.

That is a Magnifica. It can be a BTA but there are several things that make this unlikely

1. It host the Ocellaris
2. The the tentacle tips is slightly swollen at the very tip. BTA either has tepper pointed tentacles, or else has swollen near the end of the tentacles, but not at the end.
3. It is attached on the top of a smooth rock and spread out to the light as Magnifica should. BTA normally attached in a crevice and reach out to the light from the side or the crevice.

If you happen to have a picture of the mouth of this anemone, there definitely characteristic that can be positively ID as one or the other. As is, from that single picture, I am almost certain that it is a Magnifica
