All About Reef Safe Wrasses in Aquaria

I figured I might as well post an update-

Went ahead and picked up a 20L from Petco and ordered a H. biocellatus and P. flavianalis from LiveAquaria. Unfortunately the P. flavianalis didn't even make it 24 hours and I don’t really know why. I matched temp, salinity, and had the room as dark as possible during acclimation and release. Bummer for sure.

The H. biocellatus is doing fantastic though, eats like a pig and apparently likes his picture taken. Don’t mind all the sand everywhere in the pictures, he was acting like he couldn’t find the Pyrex bowl so I just dumped the sand out in a corner.

I will be ordering another Paracheilinus this week

Sometimes it takes them a day to find the sand, but they always figure it out eventually.

I've recently picked up 2 Cirrhilabrus Wrasse (Lubbock and Naoko) both are in qt and are eating. Quite active but a little skittish still after 3 days.

Im noticing the Naoko which is the bigger of the two is chasing the Lubbock frequently. No apparent damage as of yet but I'm wondering if this aggression should be addressed or if it part of the hierarchy being established?

Doesn't sound to serious, fish are active and curious creatures. They could be bored, they could be adapting socially.

Keep an eye out for physical injuries, not a major deal if a bit of fin is tattered, but it is if one looks beaten.

Give it a few more days, make sure the wrasses have a place to hide if they need too. PVC pipe and fittings work great in a qt tank.

Post pictures if you notice physical damage to the fish.

Naoko is a pretty aggressive species. That's going to be a problem in the same QT.

Unlikely. As Hunter said naokoae are pretty aggressive toward other fairies. That aggression will only increase as it matures and will pretty considerable in the confines of a 70g.

Agree. It is doubtful they will work together now in the QT, or later in a 70g.

Well that's a shame. Beautiful fish. I'd rather several Wrasse. What are some good options to go with the Lubbock.

In the qt you can make a divider with egg crate with some plastic mesh zip tied to it to stop the aggression.

Consider the chart closely; that "+" is next to Naoko as a warning.
