JHi there fellow reefers all over the globe, i am having again issues with my acans. Now all of my acans start having problems.

they are puffy the whole day, but when you take a look at them (out the water) their skin is losing , or at one piece(colony) it is completely gone.

what can cause this, never had problems with all of them, just one piece had problems before and could not save it

water parameters added , i am low on nutrients like 2-5 nitrate and phosphate like 0.04 can this cause the problem? Bringing up the values but slowly.

Taking them out of the water stresses them especially if you’re doing it a lot.

What size tank do you have and how long has it been set up? Do you have a full tank shot under white lights? What kind of lighting do you have? If you have LED lighting what brand and settings? How long have your nutrients been low? Do you know your ALK, CAL, and MAG? The more we know the more likely we can help you.

I know taking corals out of the water causes stress but to show tje problem i have to. As i will post a picture how they look normally.

i just added allready an icp test that is the file (i hope it is visible with the first topic)

led reefflare , mixed reef setting just a little light not to much for acans.and not to much flow. They are in a new 4 monts old system as in the old system(3 years old ) they started losing this tissue. At one time, and that tank will be empty soon.when the new one is 100 % ok. So it was also some kind of risk putting them over to the new tank but accept the risk as in the old it started. In the hope i could save them with the new systhem and good water values.

Thread 'Acans eaten alive' https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/acans-eaten-alive.940702/

Is this a continuation of this issue?

Do you do regular water changes?

Do you have any other coral being effected in this way?
Well it started with one colony back then, i bought new ones as it is my favorite coral and those went very good till like a month ago.

yes i change somethimes water but only when problems occur, or values are not ok.

i run on alkatronic and triton core 7.
Euphyllia are going crazy in the old tank so to be honest i just wanted to keep it running till new system is fully ready. But there is only a problem with acans so decided to move them over to the new system.

and one other coral is losing a small part of tissue. But that could also be because of the aptasia i did not see before.

It sounds like it could be a pest issue, but honestly it could be allot of things, or nothing but a coral that won't survive and with moving them and still having the issues i wouldnt know, hopefully some one has an idea and you can verify or maybe something will come to your mind.

Have you checked for exposed magnets or old pump rotars rusting? Acans are my nemesis so I can't say to much, have you tried feeding them? That might help them gain strength to fight what they are going through. And of course stray voltage, I know those are all pretty easy checks but sometimes things get overlooked.

Good luck, let's bump this thread a few times to get some eyes on it.

Acans (They’ve decided they’re no longer Acans but Micromussa now. They’ll always be Acans to me though lol) are one of my all time favorite corals; especially Lordhowensis. They like their water a bit dirty. That is, they like phosphates and nitrates a little higher than usual. I personally would shoot for phosphates around 0.1 ppm and nitrates at 10 ppm. A 4 month old system should be ok for LPS like Acans/Micromussas as long as your lighting and flow are decent.

What are the parameters in the old system? How are the corals in the old system? Can you take a picture of the old system under whites?

They can still recover so don’t give up on them yet. Leave them in the system they’re in, let your nitrates and phosphates come up to 10 ppm and 0.1 ppm respectively, and keep conditions as stable as you can at this point. Unless it’s an emergency don’t take the Acans out of the water.

Sorry for not writing any update,

well the new system is up and running but i lost allmost all of my acans, they keep bulky and healthy looking. But they keep losing skin and in the end they just die.

i can show my values last icp (see attachement). It all started in the old tank and i hoped in the new tank they would restore but they keep dying, losing flesh like some bacterial infection. So a month ago i brought them to a friend to dip them with antibiotics and unfortunately it did nothing.

any of you any idea?

should i try a new piece in a while when these wont survive? Or is this thing eating them for always in my system?
My overall vieuw of the tank , all is starting to grow and parameters stable but these acans make me crying.

many thanks and all ideas are welcome. 797EAB16-45B4-4840-BD82-CFF57EF6B2DA.jpeg 88D6B395-8EE7-4B87-9232-3075CD559A5B.jpeg

I have the same luck but I know people that do great with them that feed heavy, I don't mean injecting the mouth full of reef roids, I mean feed the water column with phyto, fish food, oysterfeast and frozen foods, stuff like that. lower light adequate flow and basically dirty water, and dont keep moving them around. I never have luck with them in my tanks, but I keep lower nutrients. a healthy coral can fight most infections a healthy acan needs food in the water everyday IMO, good luck!

It's hard to diagnose anything out of the water or with heavy blue lighting. White light pics in the water would be best.

What type of fish in the tank? My tang was constantly mouthing my acans to the point I needed to remove them. Also not sure why you are taking them out of the water.

Well i feed everyday, no spotfeeding. I took them out the water at that time to dip them, and to make the picture.

but now we are allready some time further,
and still continues. So i hope they will go better , as i had them 2 years no problems at all. Suddenly it started and the crap doesn’t stop even with antibiotics etc.
