Hey community,

i have a new fish reef, and i love the white look. I can choose, 6500k led or 9000k led. So I dont want to mix it, and I dont wanna hear is it ugly I love it.

But what is for soft coral grow better?

Or is there no big difference?

Thank you

Have you seen both lights in person?

I feel both of those K temps would fall into the white category. My first tank had 5500 to 6500k metal halides as primary lighting and grew softies fine. I ran 10000k pcs for a while, that was still very white and grew things fine. My current 14,000k led has just a slight blue, I supplement with blue T5s.

Yes i have both here, but i have bought a second led before 10 minutes.

It is a blue bulb, i would say 20K.

I can use 2 bulbs, so i combined the 9k with the blue bulb, i find this must be ok.

Or what you think?

I like the daytime white look with just blues for morning and evening. I run my 14000k LEDs for 9 hours and my T5 blue bulbs for 12 hours.

Both my light fixtures are dimmable so I can play with the intensity of white and blue.

I like white look to but 6500k is a little to “freshwater” for me. I would say 9000k as I would personally choose 10000k.

I remember back in the early 90's about the only metal halide bulbs around ( that I could find) were 65K and to me it had a yellow tinge to it.
It was a chore to pile as many 40 watt actinic bulbs on top of the tank to try and get away from that look.
So from what I remember with 65k, I'd say go to the 9k
