Hello! I have a 280 gallon tank i’m wanting to stock well. I’ve already previously had it set up as a predator tank, so i’m uninterested in that. Also, not planning to have any corals. Just want a large community of fish. I have a small eyeliner tang and a snowflake moray currently!
Which angels, tangs and butterflyfish go together? Any sites or threads i should read?

I say just look at pictures of tangs, angels and butterflies (and other fish if you want) and see which ones you like. Then look at tank size requirements, temperament and make a stock list as you go and add/subtract fish that wouldnt go well with the other fish you want. At least thats how I stock my tanks

For example I love angels. But angels are tricky to get them to get along with. I wouldnt put a shy angel with an emperor for example, bad idea. So you would want to decide what you want between the two. Also helps if you want an aggressive, semi-aggressive, peaceful, or predator set up!

is that total volume with sump or with out?

I am stocking an IM 200 peninsula 275 with sump as a peaceful fowler

focusing on butterflies angels a tang and a few wrasses.

here is my soon to be stock list:

dwarfs angels:
flame -In QT
bi color in QT
Ebli
flame back

butterflies
black back -in tank
Pearlscale
latticed -in QT
copper band
Yellow Long nose

Tang
"hippo"

wrasse

red line- in tank
dusky
maybe a few more smaller wrasses

I might do one large angel I have yet to decide.

I am sticking to the easier butterflies expect the copper band. but I am buying Qted fish so the copper band may or may not happen depending on if they have one eating.
the black back is only eating clams of now hoping to get it on frozen when more fish are in the tank to "show" it to eat.

so that what I am thinking for my peaceful community tank.

you have a nice sized tank you have a lot of options. just keep in mind butterflies can be pretty timid.
so pick the fish you like research if there compatible and have a plan on what to add fist, second etc.

curious to see what you come up with!

OP: another amazing fish to think about is the harlequin tusk that one is also on the may be list to.

if you like eels always been a fan of ( but never had one) the Hawaiian dragon eel. not sure you can even find them. but there are talk about opening up Hawaii so maybe??

curious what fish you you like? what are you going for. a few larger fish or a lot of smaller ones?

No mine isnt blue! But he sure is cute, he is a baby right now. About an inch long. And my maroons have never bitten me and Ive had them a year and a half. But I did have a regular clown who would jump out of the tank and bite me in the face! Now she was mean! This is my little spikey ball as I call him. He is learning to he a puffer so he puffs at anything new lol
