Hello I've recently just setup a 150gallon tank that I'm looking to make primarily an SPS Reef.

I do already have a few fish for it that have been in my 40g macro tank for the last 2 months. Those fish are a pair of SixLine Wrasse and two Aiptasia eating Filefish.
The one fish that I really want is a Pacific Sailfin Tang. I'm also trying to avoid any fish that will eat shrimp as I plan to use a lot for my CUC, making most wrasses incompatible.

I have also considered adding a few Sailfin Mollies but I'm still on the fence for that. However I do not wish to add any clownfish to this system. I see them in every tank I have encountered and they have lost their novelty on me.

Thanks in advance!

The Sixlines rule out fairy and flasher wrasses.

Could do a foxface, I love my magnificent foxface.

Maybe a smaller species of bristletooth tang like a tomini? Or a smaller acanthurus like a convict or powder brown?

I love adding some small fish that perch in my sps- some cleaner gobies, masked gobies, green banded gobies, etc.

Does the tank have sand? If so, a jawfish could be a fun add- I had a dusky jawfish back years ago that had great personality- it’s eyes also had a rainbow iridescence to them that was quite stunning as well.

With a 150g you have a lot of options, it’ll just come down to your personal preference.

So sounds like you want a more peaceful tank, tangs can be jerks so keep that in mind. @vetteguy53081 is a great person to ask about tangs he has 25! Foxface is a great choice very cute fish. You could do a dwarf angel for color, they tend to be more reef safe then big ones but you do have filefish and they eat corals lol. Chromis are super fun for movement, so are anthias if you can get them a good feeding schedule. Triggers are a no go, they eat shrimp and crabs! Gobies and blennies are always great editions! Ive got a melenarus wrasse and he is good with my clean up crew, at least mine is!

Sailfin dont play nice and can get territorial as well as greedy stealing all the food. Be sure to quarantine and prepare fish for introduction to display. It takes one fish to create havoc and wipeout from disease and other issues

This is the pair. It's not easy to get them on camera together as one is very afraid of my phone.

are there behavioral differences between the Pacific Ocean and the Red Sea variants of Sailfin tangs?

I'm mostly just looking for anything that wont abuse any clean up crew I put in. I have a 65g mixed reef with a banana wrasse and it will tear apart snails, hermits, and shrimp. He may just be a gluttonous fella tho because he will eat literally anything that is food.

Can’t give you a definitive answer to that as every fish has their own personality and temperament and while I have many fish- they’re from pacific, Africa, Australia and only Red Sea is my purple tang
