We're using regular red sea. It's supposed to mix up about 8.5 dkh at 1.026 sg but my nsw hasn't hit that yet in my testing. The best I've seen was 8.3. Somewhere between there and my tank it drops down to ~8. I haven't done the math but I think the difference between that ~8 and my current 7.5 was my extra dilution two weeks ago.Always good to have some NeoNitro or equivalent handy to dose up when needed. I may have asked this already but I don’t remember, what salt mix are you using and does it mix up to your preferred parameters? That’s a good place to start. If it mixes up more towards the natural seawater parameters then you’ll either need to dose to supplement or switch to a higher Alk mix.
I'm ok with the salt mixing up to 8 or 8.5. I've never done much with sps and I'm mainly doing it in this tank to fill in some spots on the rock that seem to be getting too much light for lps. I'm ok with dosing and on our first tank we ended up needing to dose when the corals were doing well. Honestly, I haven't spent much time thinking about it yet.
Thanks for the suggestion on neo nitro. We have always had crazy high nitrates on our first tank so dosing nitrates was never an issue.
